is my STB going to die?

Hi, since having ntl for over 4 years i have never had a very good reception.
Now i cannot get any interactive content at all ..all i get is either Please Wait or not even that far.. I have reset the stb and left it off for hours and still get the same problem.

Also on occassion i come home from work to find "stop" on the front of the stb and the screen is either all green or red.!..

I have noticed the card is getting very warm and has started to brown at one end.

The broadband engineer who installed my last month said its common that interactive is either extremely slow or non existant ... any comments?

Re: is my STB going to die?

What does the box say if you press help?

If the box is regularly saying stop then its on its way to silicon heaven.

The tech will have installed an attenuator. If your levels were too hi then yes it would have caused issues (blackouts etc).

EDIT : Kos eye carent spel.

Re: is my STB going to die?

Hi Thunder & Welcome to the site.

I had that problem with my STB, the screen was going green quite often, I called faults (0800 052 2000) an engineer came out and replaced the STB. If I was you, I would report it as a fault, they will probably replace the box, as prop says its probably on its way to silicon heaven.

Re: is my STB going to die?

I have had 3 STB's replaced in my time quite close together when I first got Digital, but this one I have now is quite robust, does not even get hot. They getting on abit now (still got the Cable & Wireless logo attatched).

Sorry thunder, should have welcomed you first. Welcome to the site.
The model number is Di4001N. However there are 5 variations on that box as well!!!

If you press help, and report what it says, it could point to the issue. I would only be worried about the STOPs if they are occuring more than a couple of times a month.
