(many more are feeling the same now)
I suffered serious stress and psoriasis due to the companies actions, and was rather silly not to go to a doctor and take time off sick. I got as far as phoning for an appointment to be told I would have to wait 2 weeks for a meeting with my doctor.
Do you or anyone else honestly think I want to gloat and wish that sort of thing on average ntl worker?
i am not a disgruntled customer who want's to blame every single person in ntl for my problem.
If people here or anywhere else feel that I am gloating about another example of ntl people treating employees like s**t please PM me, and I culd probably enlighten you a bit more towards my feelings for badly treated ntl employees.
btw: I have been told this morning that all departments of ntl were told by mid day ysterday, so it was hardly something confidential was it.

It is easy for you to sit/stand/hover there and say that because the majority of ppl did not see your post on the .com site. First of all you posted and the 'Bob a Job' thread saying...
' The news they got today was the same news i told everyone abt on here and got flamed by ntl employees'
Apoligies if not 100% accuarte on the quote, the above quote to me seems like a gloat abt your sources plz do correct me if anyone thinks i'm wrong.
Then because no-one responded to that abt 15/20 mins later you posted a thread titled 'Dunleavey Drive' asking if any1 knew when the lease was up on the office
Thats the posting of a caring person isn't it...All i have to say is that some ppl lost their jobs yesterday please think abt how when you post something those ppl are going to feel reading it, I never said we should not discuss it or that it was confidential, the ONLY thing i objected to was the way you posted it as to me and others it cam across as a 'gloat that your sources had been right' and quite frankly no-one gives a f**K
Lets just have a few beers and forget abt the above

In my defence regarding my first post, I was talking about something completely different! I was talking about exactly what I said, something that I have gone on about and got flamed for.
I am still to hear if that situation actually happened, the poeple who would of been affected were in a meeting and have apparently been very tight lipped.
I would agree gloated if that situation had happened, along with many current ntl employees.
I want to bury the hatchet, (and possibly you do in my head) but would like to finally say that.
"If I or anyone else had known what was going on for a fact, and and said Ha Ha Ha guess what etc" they would deserve to be run off that site.
Nowhere in my post was any gloating, it was just a silly remark (yes, in hindsight) made that got jumped on by people who took it out of context. ie: they thought it was from someone who knew the facts.
I don't think I will actually be around on the other site to say told you so to many of the things that I have speculated, because everytime I guess right it puts another nail in my coffin.

Its 96 unlucky associates in the call center who are losing their jobs as the calls/correspondence are now going to be handled in Glasgow. There'll still be approx 200 people left working in/from the Cardiff office in one job or another eg engineers, business support, aup, hostmaster etc etc
edit: just seen some of the other posts, apologies if I've duplicated.

Firstly let me add my voice of sympathy to those who will loose their jobs. I sufferred the same fate a few years ago and it was most unpleasant.
Regrettably these days, to most large companies, staff, offices and similar are, at the bottom line, numbers on a balance sheet to some accountant. What amazes me is the continual reinvention of the wheel with many companies, who will relocate, rationalise, amalgamate, or whatever strategy, to show a nominal saving on a balance sheet in three or four years time, despite the affect on morale.
Many companies realise that one of their prime assets is in fact their staff. It is their staff who provide a key resource, and the interface that enables customers to do business, and thus the company to earn money. For companies like ntl, who's physical assets lie in it's infrastructure, the accountants can only see staff as a cost, in the outgoing of wages, rather than income of fees.
Lastly, I have seen reference to criticism of ntl having owned the cardiff building and then sold it to a pension company. This is for many companies sound business practice as a means of raising capital, and placing the risk of ownership on others. It is practived by large and small corporations alike, many of them blue chip. If your business is not property ownership, why have your capital tied up in it, instead of being able to spend it on assets that increase your fundamental business, i.e in ntl's case, their networks.

WTF has the 'CAP' got to do with this ?
How many people have been contacted reference their usage ?How many of those have been disconnected ?
You could say you have a 'cranefly in your cap' over what has , from what I can see, turned out to be a load of fuss about nothing.
(sorry for going a touch OT but th'engineer keeps bringing it up.)

The CAP makes BB from NTL unpopular therefore less customers less revenue less jobs or job losses.
It called Elastic and inelastic pricing the Broadband product is inelastic therefore changes make it less attractive to the buyer.
If the competition has beetter products for less or same price.

The job losses have NOTHING whatsoever to do with the "CAP".
NOTHING.
Bloody hell grow up.

Exactly, I wouldn't of liked that job to be honest but it's people livings. My flames and disgust were aimed at the management and anyone who thinks different should ask before they judge me.

Hands up those who think it will be the last time they do this
Does anyone think the management that made the decision are interested in anything other than the balance sheet, they don't want any discussion/dirty laundry talked about in public because it's bad news for them. It seems that long gone are the days when companies released a press statement striaght away about these sort of situations, they probably hope that it will not get into the press and receive comments about it affecting the allready poor service by ntl as a company.
I wouldn't like to count the number of times that a region such as Wales has been re-organised, re-structured, bundled in with this that and the other region. There has allways been a two year life cycle to ntl plans involving structures and regions.

Exactly and the accountants can see exactly what the daily tasks are for these peopel affected, they are treating a lot of other "back room" departments the same. No one will shout about these people going because their jobs are not usually visible to the accountants and general public/customer.
ntl has hemmoraged (spelling) too many good technical people over the last four years, it can't continue and is the reason for many big network issues taking so long to resolve.
The guys on networks will tell you this is true, along with poor management at a regional level.
Technicians/Engineers in the field will leave when the market picks up, hang on...I better be wrong, or i will be accused of giving out company confidential information.

The main asset of any company or business is it's customers
|
That is true, but a company selling what's at the end of the day a technical product like ntl, will not retain customers if there are not the employees in place to service those products to the customers satisfaction.
ntl have used the old method of cutting back, and cutting back on staff until the business is affected. This will then show the minimum level of staff that they can get away with.
Unfortunately for the infrastructure and the efficient running and maintenance of these, the problems caused by these sort of decisions in departments looking after them take a long time to show.
It's a bit like not bothering to service your car, performance gradually drops until one day it dies. the garage then hands you a very large bill and says
"Well sir the engine wouldn't be wrecked if you had changed the oil and the cambelt, the tyres wouldn't be worn uneven if you had the traking done, the discs wouldn't be scored if you changed the brake pads, and the driveshaft wouldn't be worn if you had changed the leaking gaitor"
It really is very similar

Yeah, OK, BB is now so unpopular since the 'cap' that they've gained 143,800 broadband customers in q1.....
Give it a rest!!!!!!!!!

The cap is unpopular with a small minority of heavy broadband users who care enough about their service and what they use it for 1/ to understand what the cap is and 2/ to be in any way bothered about it.
I would say that the vast majority of broadband users have never heard of it and most of those that have don't know how/if it applies to them.
Thus while one or two folks might have exercised their commercial right to ditch ntl because of the cap, it is highly unlikely that the cap accounts for any significant 'churn' of ntl customers.

Moreover, the integration process has involved a number of internal reorganizations of our business as we continue to strive for better performance. These reorganizations have typically
involved, among other things, the termination of employees made redundant as a result of the process. Although we cannot predict precisely the effect that this has had, it is likely these
internal reorganizations have negatively impacted employee morale. If we undertake additional internal reorganizations they will similarly likely negatively impact employee morale. Negative
effects on employee morale can have a negative effect on our operations generally.

I guess nobody in wales read NTL Q1 results for 2003

In my experience this kind of euphemistic management waffle is in itself a major cause of 'negative impacts on employee morale'. The complete communications company ought to consider communicating with its employees in plain English.
Let's be clear here, 'terminating an employee' could be defined as 'removing a person's ability to pay the mortgage and feed and clothe his/her family'. I know it's sometimes a necessary part of business but trying to hide behind semantics helps no-one but the person that has to break the bad news.

This management gobbledegook makes it look like the employees have done wrong, and are being dissmissed. That's unfair and shows a complete lack of regard for wellbeing of staff.
