Question norton online scanning

apologies first off if this has been covered before , so i run avast antivirus and kerio personal firewall , both have good reputations , when i go to nortons on line checker it tells me i have no firewall , useless antivirus etc etc etc , if i use any of the other online security check sites they come back saying the protection is spot on , is this just norton trying to make money or what , sad if it is true

Re: norton online scanning

i just ran that test with Norton inernet security installed. It failed on the Trojan test as port 1025 is open. Also failed the hacker exposure check as ICMP 23 and 80 were open

Re: norton online scanning

I have used Command CSAV, now owned by Authentium for over 7 years. On the odd occasions that I have used the Norton online checker it always tells me that I have no AV software installed. Either Command is good at hiding itself or the checker is flawed.
PS. I have never had a virus infection of any kind.

Just tried it again ( for a laugh)

Hacker Exposure Check Show DetailsHide DetailsDescription:
Tests your TCP ports for unauthorized Internet connections.

Analysis:
Your computer appears safe from most common intrusions. To learn more about the threats you are protected against, view a detailed analysis of your test results.

Windows Vulnerability Check Show DetailsHide DetailsDescription:
Tests whether basic information, including your PC's network identity, can be seen by hackers.

Analysis:
Your computer's identity is secure. However, this does not mean you are completely safe from all Internet security threats.

Trojan Horse Check Show DetailsHide DetailsDescription:
Attempts to test for access to your computer through methods commonly used by Trojan horses.

Analysis:
Your computer and data are not vulnerable to Trojan horse attacks. However, Trojan horse threats are constantly evolving, and unless you have a personal firewall and current virus protection, you're not completely safe. To learn more about threats you are protected against, view a detailed analysis of your test results.

Antivirus Product Check Show DetailsHide DetailsDescription:
Checks for a current version of a commonly-used virus protection product.

Analysis:
WARNING! No known virus protection software found. This means your computer and data are vulnerable to virus attacks. Virus attacks can have serious consequences, including system damage and data loss.

Recommendation:
Install the latest version of a commonly-used virus protection product.

I ran the test and passed with flying colours.
Try grc.com and run the 'shields up' tests (and a few others)

Not really, the links in post #8, view a detailed analysis of your test results, are still live and show ICMP as my only open port. I leave that open to stop needless firewall alerts.

Contact your AV company and let them know so that if they want, they can have words with symantec to update their AV list, otherwise they could end up losing customers.

CSAV isn't one I've heard of, and its likely NAV haven't heard of it either.
And at least they just recommend a "commonly used" AV product rather than specifically their own product

I passed the grc test but failed the Norton test first time. GRC only scans the first 1056 ports. Norton spotted I had a VPN port open on my router (its now closed).

I have Norton 2003 security.
