Re: Introduce yourselves
Well here goes... I tend to 'lurk' a bit, just taking in what's going on, getting some good tips, trying to expand my knowledge. I must say the reputation system helps to encourage people like myself to post more when we know it has helped in some way or our opinions are valued.
Well me........
Been involved with PC's since the Commodore PET days (rep point to the first who can remember what programming system they used). Iv'e been in Engineering Projects for 25 years, Electrical Systems and Chemical Plant Process Control design.
Last 5 years been a specialist in SAP (our enterprise wide system, 2,000 users in 4 countries on 3 continents) specialising in Project Systems module.
Experience in AutoCAD, Excel, Access etc. Also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt (another rep point to whoever knows what that's all about !)
Sounds a bit like a CV, sorry about that.

Multiple ID's .... you are already registered and are using this ID too ... Hmmm

Fair point really, this site was not set up to be a duplicate of .Com, things were going awry with .Com and the Admins set this one up with a slightly different agenda.

Just look at the titles of some of the threads, do they tempt the 'lurker' to come on in? No, not at all. In fact, they give a distinct impression of utter drivel.

General NTL ... A place where problems are discussed and solved to the best of the ability of the members ... and now with NTL staff helping out too, this can only get better.
Duffy's Dorm ... A place where members can discuss many different aspects about the things that affect them. There is laughter, fun, discussion, banter, etc etc. If there wasn't this would become a very boring forum. It's moderated well, and has become a community of like mided people.

This thread has been dominated by those who it appears are those with most to lose if repping is visible to all.

Rep system is optional ... turn it off if you don't like it and hence, no need for you to be part of those threads.
The rep system exists ... live with it ... some use it as it was intended, some don't ... soooo what ... If this is the most important thing in your life, then I suggest you re-examing it.

This monopolisation by a very few is repeated throughout the entire botton half of the forum and regrettably the vast majority of those posts by the monopolisers are utterly boring rubbish.

In your opinion ..., but obviously not in theirs ... There hae been many threads of discussion about many different subjects, the ones I want to contribute to I do, the ones I don't I dont. Some subjects are very immotive, and one person will have an opinion and voice it vigourously, good for them, others will voice their opinion and leave .... this is discussion, and constructive arguing ... nothing wrong with that as far as I can see.
People are here because they enjoy the atmosphere and banter ... you obviously don't, good for you, maybe you will eventually find somewhere where you can sit comfortably, but I don't think wthis will ever be like .COM ... ever.

It's a valid reason why some short sighted, anally retentive people may decide not to post, but why still lurk ????. If you don't like it as much as you say, what's the point in staying.
I for one enjoy it here, it's varied, educational, helpful, and most of all fun. If it wasn't, it would become very boring.

Re: Introduce yourselves
I have been mulling lone lurkers post over for a day or two.
I suppose that this forum would appear to be more 'professional' (for want of a better word) if we didn't have duffys dorm and members here spouting off about all sorts of rubbish but it would also make this forum as dull as the mcafee forums.
In addition, the general 'chattiness' of this place encourages members to hang around more and that makes it easier to get more help faster for any problems (not just ntl ones). Wich can only be a good thing.

Re: Introduce yourselves
The post by 'lone lurker' sorry, 'Drudge' is not an attack on the forum but a very bitter attack on the team, the member 'Drudge' had his membership deleted because he was not allowed to harass a forum member, he did not happen to get on with, all started because he did not agree with this members beliefs I believe.
I witnessed this member publically harrassing a member with every post that they had made and I pulled him up and asked him to cease this nonsense, his reply was quite arrogant saying that, because he was asked by the admin team to cease this behaviour he said he 'had' no choice but to adhere to our request but had it been his choice, he probably would of continued so he can belittle this member with every post that they had made.
I told 'Drudge' that his antics were extremely petty and that at the end of the day, this is an internet forum, post views on most aspects but in no way will I tolerate attacks on other members. He did not agree with this and he then got his daughter involved in this whole matter who then made an attack on us, I did not know at the time it was his daughter however when the IP's matched, it certainly did put two and two together. Both then requested their membership to be deleted. I really do believe that 'Drudge' wanted his departure to have a significant impact on the people that post here. But because this did not work 'lone lurker' appeared with an intent to cause further trouble as he had not finished what he had started.
Please take notice of this 'Drudge', this is a forum specifically for ntl problems etc etc it is not a school playground, I do not have time for petty people, so please do me a favour and all the other members a favour and not come here with your arrogance and ignorance and please do not waste anymore of my time. Thank you very much.
