Cheaper to stay ?
Well the bill arrived this morning and it got me thinking as to whether I'm actually cheaper staying with NTL or moving away. I usually pay at least £110 a month. I have the phone and £25 cable modem package (600k) I have digital tv, all the family packs, the movies and sport. I also have 2 additional boxes.
To be totally honest I'm pretty content with the NTL service. I'm a moany b*st*rd and complain about everything really and I don't have much to complain about with regards NTL (at the moment anyway). The only thing I'd be keen on is more digital channels, a red button that works and the Sky+ box. I've checked out various price schemes at Sky in the past but never really found much of a saving. Everyone keeps saying its cheaper away from NTL. So could someone tell me once and for all if its actually cheaper for the packages I have to get sky and adsl or whether I'm best off where I am.
Cheers

Re: Cheaper to stay ?
While I think for the base packages you're slightly better off with sky/bt, when you start getting into multiple boxes/premium packages, you're better off staying - the main thing being that you rent the boxes from NTL wheras you have to actually buy the sky boxes... My opinion would be to stay, although it can't hurt to nip onto sky.co.uk and bt.com and get a couple of quotes

Re: Cheaper to stay ?
If you have Sky+ the cost of mirror subscriptions is £10 whereas it is £15 on NTL.
EDIT. I like the second question that you are asked if you order Sky online. "2. Has your household benefited from an Interactive Discount in the past? For example, have you already bought a Sky digital satellite?". Hmm, I thought that you only had to get a mindish, not but a satellite. How many millions do they cost?

although sky were doing an offer where if you payed for more then one premium package on a sky box and had sky+ installed as long as you subscribed to more then one premium package you get that £10 waived.

You get the £10 Sky+ subscription charge waived and the cost of mirror subscription reduced from £15 to £10.

Re: Cheaper to stay ?
Problems come for Nor, if he wants extra set-tops from sky, these cost £200 each I think plus install at about £50, then monthly subscription of £12.00p m so this maybe cheaper in the very long run but it's a big initial payout of nearly £500!!! ! Plus after 12months the sky boxes become your property and and faults are chargeable, with Ntl it's included

I was about to post much the same.
So say the cost of the additional box / mirror sub is £10 on Sky and £15 on NTL the split is more appropriately
Sky
Box purchase and install £150 (100 for box (not + and 50 for install)
Monthly cost 10
NTL
Monthly cost 15
Extra 5
so payback is 150/5 = 30 months. Plus fault costs / call out costs / potential replacement box costs after 12 months.
I'm in a similar situation 2x boxes and 600k a £73 monthly bill. Does not look much cheaper with Sky and BT (but I have a BT line also), and you get to screw a satellite (see above - must need some fairly sturdy bolts) to your house.

We have just switched to Sky/BT (retained Cable Internet Access).
Costs were similar to SKY/BT, but we then went for Sky+, with a 2nd installation. Cost was £200 for Sky+, and 2nd Box free. Installation was £1, and the cost is £10 for the 2nd box, and no additional cost for Sky+ (providing you have premium channels).
PPV Footie is more expensive with SKY, especially this time of the year.
Don't forget, anyone who wants Sky and is going to order it, use the links on this site so this site gets commission, without costing you anymore. £1 installation, so is actually cheaper than Dixons etc,

Re: Cheaper to stay ?
If you order online you can get a Sky+ box and an additional digibox for £199 with free installation of both. Additional digiboxes cost £99 these days or you can pick them up second hand for less.

Re: Cheaper to stay ?
Just to let you know that I have Pipex ADSL, and Sky for a total of £61.00 (£21 and £40).
Not sure how my BT bill is worked out, but lets say £10 a month - thats £71.00.
I'm going to get Sky+ too, so the outlay will increase, but in my opinion I am very glad I moved from ntl..............
