Mobile phone text message???

Elllloooo....

I got a text message on my phone today.
"URGENT! Your mobile no was awarded with £1,500 bonus caller prize on 06/06/03.
This is our FINAL attempt to contact YOU!
Call 0906636 7453 BOX9xxxxxxxxxx, 150PPM"

First time I had had that one.

If I dialed the number, I suppose I would be subjected to a very long and expensive recorded message, only to be told that I had not actually won but entered in a draw & if I am lucky I can ring again, pay lots more only to find I had won a BIC Biro.

Just one big scam, soon you'll receive another one telling you to get in touch as they've already contacted you.

Just erase and forget it.

My son (12) kept on at me about a scratch card he found in the sunday paper, he scratched it and "won" a "prize". I use the terms won and prize in their loosest sence!

I explained that it will involve a 5 min call at £1.50 per min and that it would come out of HIS pocket money if he wants to do it, to which he agreed.

I made the phone call for hum, he won a £50 voucher..... which can only be used at a photographers in London as part payment of a £375 portfolio shoot.

So, yes he did "win" a "prize" which was valued above the cost of the call (just)

I think they use something similar to a "WarDialer" i.e. they mass send to 07812 000000 000001 000002 etc...

Example - if you use a modem and hyperterminal to dial 07973 100 600 you get to the Orange Direct SMS server. Send SMS messages to any orange mobile or pager and it doesn't send your phone number surely other phone companies use similar access... not to mention web based SMS services etc
