Screensaver Freezes

Can a screensaver become corrupt. The problem I have is using Windows XP screensaver 3D Text, now freezes my screen after running for perhaps 2minutes. The PC hasn't crashed as I can reboot it using Alt F4.
This problem only occurs on the one screensaver (I think). Also can anyone tell me apart from the obvious file ***.scr, what other files ie. dll's are associated with this scr. and could they be common to other applications, as I will delete them and copy from another PC.

Re: Screensaver Freezes

Does the problem occur with any other of XP's 3D screensavers? (ie: 3D Flying Objects)

If you create a new user account and log in with that one does it have the same problem?

Re: Screensaver Freezes

It does not happen with any other screensaver. I haven't tried another account.

Re: Screensaver Freezes

That would be the next thing to try, as it would help to determine if the problem is with your account or system-wide.

Re: Screensaver Freezes

I've seen this kind of thing before. It is sometimes a graphics card/driver issue. Depending on the card/driver functionality I dare say you could tweak the driver settings on a per application basis and alter some of the directX settings when running that screen saver.
The easiest way out of course is to simply not use that particular screen saver (or look for another one on the net that does more or less the same thing).

Re: Screensaver Freezes

I've had a situation where the screen reverts to a safe mode type screen. Therefor I think the problem is more than I originally thought. Going to update graphics card driver first. Any other ideas?
