Wink Using usb and eithernet at the same time.

I'm trying to set up my recentlty purchased second user laptop to work online.
my set up is at the moment. Router conneced to my cable modem for main PC and PS2 network adaptor. I have the laptop connected through the USB port on the modem..it works ok like that but disconects PS2 or pc. I have XIRCOM net work card on the laptop but I cannot get any drivers to work for it. Idealy I would like to use the laptop to work through to router as well. any ideas
Thanks Paul.

Re: Using usb and eithernet at the same time.

the modem can only connect by one means at any time, because NTL only provide 1 IP address to each modem.

What XIRCOM network card is it? any numbers would be useful.
Also, what operating system are you using?

Do you get any messages when inserting the network card, or could it or the PC-Card slot be broken?

1.I'm using WIN XP PRO .Xircom credit card PS-CE2-10.
I found a driver on driver.com that matched the card number, that was self extracting. It just left about 20 icon/ files on my desktop with no further installing instructions what to do next. I opened a few of them none seemed to have the driver file.2.No message when inserting network card.dont think the cards broken.3 when i did a search from desk top.. I typed:xircom found
c:WINDOWS\system32. what ever thtat means!

You don't state what your laptop is, but when I ran the ntl installation CD it didn't like my xircom card. I've been told (but not tried myself yet) that you have to bypass the normal set up, and ask the ntl helpdesk to give you the direct ip number through which you can then register... (I guess going through a router you shouldn't have to, but it might be something odd between ntl and the xircom)

OK what you need to do is put all the files into one folder easy to locate on the HD. (Ideally do this by re-extracting the original file)

Then look for the device in the device manager (System icon in control panel or right click "My Computer and select properties)

The device should be showing now with a Mark to indicate the driver is missing or incorrect or the device is unrecognised. Simply go to that device and select to re-install the driver and point that towards the folder with the files in. That should do the trick if not post back and we can try to refind the driver file for you.

Once the card has the correct drivers installed and is being seen correctly by the system you should then have no problems connecting via this to the router.
