Usenet Upload Problems.

Hi people,
This is my first post here, basically im uploading a few binaries to a premium usenet server using my 1mb NTL line.
After a while, i get error messages from power-post stating that the upload has failed, whenever this occurs i have to physically reset the STB.

Its happend on a few premium servers, clara, astraweb and usenetserver.
tried to speak to tech support, but the woman on the line said use IE to connect to it. Im like, wtf the are you talking about? You cant use Internet Explorer to connect to an NNTP server. At which point she started harping on aboiut webspace???? Then i told her she didnt have a clue what she was talking about, and said she wasnt any help at all.

Is NTL capping uploads? And if so, why does it result in me having to reset the STB. Wasnt a problem in the past, i was a regular uploader to usenet, but now, well, it just plain sucks.

Any help/views/support would be appreciated.
TIA

Do you know how much you manage to upload before it goes belly up? Can you test an upload to your webspace (only a 50mb one!) Have you tried any other tools than power-post?

Welcome to the site BTW

Re: Usenet Upload Problems.

i have no difficulty in using ftp to upload, i can quite merrily let it upload all day without running into any problems.
I did ask tech support wether port 119 was blocked, and was told that it wasnt.
The reason i use powerpost is because it posts in yenc. could use the regular non-yenc version, but tbh, i dont fancy the extra 33% extra added to the file size. Nor would the other *users* of usenet be pleased at having to download it.

I'm not asking the members here to judge me on what i do, wether they download binaries or not, i use a premium anonymous server anyway. I was just wondering why all of a sudden, my posts are failing.
Had to backfill quite a lot of posts, and again today had to reboot the box a few times.
is it possible to use a regular cable modem to connect to NTL rather than the STB?

Thanks Again for any input.

This is quite often reported as a problem with STBs, particularly some models, when they are driven hard up against the upload rate cap for prolonged periods. The only workaround is to software rate-limit your uploads to about 85% of your hardware upload rate cap: this prevents the lock-up condition arising. A permanent fix is to get a stand-alone cable modem instead of using the STB for broadband.

if your last statement could be relayed to NTL, somehow, it would be good.
