What's the URL for Provisioning?
Says it all. An engineer replaced my STB yesterday, and I'd like to change the machine name on the provisioning page to match the naming format for the LAN (keep things tidy). http://172.16.30.83/servlet_vm1/bia is not loading within the 60-second timeout for Apple Safari, and I dare not fire up my router and introduce a second MAC address until I'm sure I can access the provisioning page with a reasonably fast connection.
Ta,
Nige.

Hi Doctor E,
As far as I know, it is not possible to access the provisional screens, once you have registered the mac address.

Not heard this terminology before. Is that the speed? I have 600 kbps and my STB tells me I have 'Silver'. Correct?

Absolutely dead certain that you can. You can add, remove and edit MAC addresses at any time. I know this because I did it the other day using the URL I gave above. Going to fire up the router anyway and see what happens. i need to get some time in on Xbox Live!

Sorted the elite of NTL STBs you should find it better than the 1000 or 4000

Oh yes it is crossover! The back panel states X-over needed and I'm currently talking to you via a shiny new x-over adapter. I hope the router auto-senses though cos it's just one more thing to worry about.

Yep you can should you be registering a new MAC.
Just verified it with Robin Walker site that once a mac address is registered it is not possible to re-visit the provisional pages, Once the MAC address has been registered, it is never possible to get back to the MAC registration screen.

Dude. A world first on a forum ... I eat humble pie. You're right and I have just realised why I was able to get that site the other day. I had an old iMac connected directly. This was registered. Then I put it behind a router, that also got registered. I changed the iMac for a new one, which didn't need registering because it was behind the router. When I ran into trouble with my connection, I patched out the router (jeez, you should see my loft ... 16-port patch panel, router, hub and a file server!) and of course got the provisioning screen for the previously unseen MAC address for the new iMac.
Duh.

Re: What's the URL for Provisioning?
So in answer to the OP who wanted to rename his computer in the ntl system, it's possible if you use a second device that's unregistered or spoof a MAC address. However, since it has no bearing on the operation of the network it strikes me as a waste of time.

Ach, it's sorted now. But it irked me. I know it has no bearing on the operation of the BB connection, but it's useful for me to have a consistent naming scheme. Also, the engineer put in a logical name (Macintosh), but he actually spelt it wrong (Mackintosh). As a publishing professional, this is going to bother me even if I can't see it. Heck, I even find myself proofreading Chinese restaurant menus!
