Heard this before. They've been promising OTT apps like Netflix for over a year now.

If that in fact is the case why on earth has it took this long

The only apps currently worth having are YouTube and Iplayer , if apps are what people want I'd suggest an XBOX or a Roku.

Come on MM as your post somewhat paint a negative gloomy picture when one suspects that things are now in motion to bring us some of the OTT apps that many of us desire as remember sometimes things can take a little longer then you think sometimes as things never go in straight lines.

Give Miranda a or three and it will stop.

It may be worth tidying your thumbs. Go to My Shows->Suggestions->Improve my Suggestions.

Correct. Apart from a throw away line from Cindy Rose there has never been any real suggestion that ott apps for TiVo are part of the long term strategy for Virgin, certainly not a suggestion that's been backed up by actions, at any rate. To suggest so now, when the stated intention of the prospective new owners is actually to continue to invest in increasing the cable footprint and when there is no commitment to TiVo past the current agreement (and a ready made replacement rolling out across Europe as we speak) appears disingenuous at best.

I am pretty sure that Neil Berkett said that they were hoping (or some similar wording) to talk to Netflix and Lovefilm about the possibility of adding them to Tivo. It was certainly after the Cindy Rose article as Netflix has only been in the UK for a little over a year (launched January 2012 if I recall correctly)

Hoping?

Hoping for what? How long does it take to pick up a phone? Send a text or email?

Heck, I'll write the email for them:

---------

Subject: Netflix on Virgin Media's TiVo

Body Text: Hi there, we love Netflix and we suspect you'll would love to have access to a potential 3.8 million TV customers on our network (which you've already got your CDNs embedded within). We should talk and do lunch.

Love Virgin Media.

Oh right. And how has that worked out for them?

As expected; nothing happened. You will get no argument from me on the points you are making, I agree with you.

I was just pointing out that there was a previous reference by Neil Berkett to aquiring Netflix services, after the CR article and before this latest statement.

Maybe this is why - Liberty don't appear keen

■Netflix: I dont envy a business that spends 70% of its revenue on content, makes a margin of only 50c a home a month and has huge national marketing expenses; is that sustainable? But we have learned a lot from them about how consumers want their content.

But Neil Berkett made his recent reference after the takeover.

Personally, I'm not fussed about Netflix on Tivo. I use a relatively cheap streamer to do the job. Using that in conjunction with Unblockus, I can access all the Netflix regions, giving much more content; I wouldn't be able to do that on a Tivo Netflix app.

I think it would be a good addition, but with so many devices now able to access Netflix, they may have missed the boat. They probably should have done it shortly after Netflix launched in the UK, if they were going to do it.

TiVo's history with apps isn't great, I don't recall seeing any positive feedback on any of the main ones such as Iplayer, Spotify, YouTube etc
