That is what happens when you vote based on your desire to be "looked after" Arthur. A society full of people that neither want, nor know how to, look after themselves. They won't work, in many cases don't know how to. Result? Tesco has to go to countries that still have a work ethic in order to find staff.

I see a situation where 2 sets of people dont know how the other lives.
A recent episode of waterloo road helped highlight this.
In that episode a boy's dad told the kid he applied for a caretaker job at the school but was refused an interview in favour of a foreigner who incidently got the job. With it been a bbc show it was predictable what was going to happen and surely it did happen. The story went on to say the boy's dad didnt turn up for the interview that was offered and using the foreign workers taking our jobs as a front. So the story writers of waterloo road have the impression of thats what real life is like.
In reality everyone I know who is long term unemployed whilst may be a bit on the lazy side they do actually apply for jobs and go to interviews. In norwich recently a new superstore opened and over 500 people applied for just 60 vacancies. The 60 vacancies were min wage part time only as well.
The claim that the poorest part of society is the hardest hit by immigration does have some facts behind it, as they typically compete for the same type of jobs which is low paid unskilled. At the same time however the claim that immigrants bog down the benefit system is also a false assumption, their prime impact is not bogging down the benefit system but rather overstretching public services in poor areas (especially since they tend to congregate in certian areas rather than spread out) and the extra competition for jobs. Employers prefer foreign workers for 2 simple reasons really. They more willing to work longer hours, extremely long hours and they dont tend to answer back when told off. I have seen this first hand at various companies I have worked at. People thinking nothing of doing 100 hours a week at basic pay (not even overtime rate) and just putting their head down getting on with a dead end job.
That in one way is commendable to work such long hours but I dont blame anyone for not wanting to compete with that as I think its not healthy to work those kind of hours.
Obviously I am not talking professionals like doctors who immigrate from europe but more the high numbers coming from rundown countries looking for a better life.
I also think its unreasonable to expect people to relocate without any help of the state. Moving is stressful as it is but try it when you not even working and your income is benefits only, it will be even harder. Plus if everyone moved to relocate then the good areas would become overcrowded and the problem would simply be moved.
