Re: Upgrade from 50mb to 100mb

well I got some routing issues at the moment, speedtest.net part of it.

without using one of my proxies the speedtest.net page wont even load.

if I load it via a proxy, then disable the proxy and start a test, the download part of the test works but upload fails. Test works fine via proxy however both ways.

no

I should have said it wont finish loading, the page starts to load but then just pauses forever till I abort. also the bit that loads is extremely slow.

also the slowdowns on speedio the last 2 nights, when testing over my proxy is full speed.

Re: Upgrade from 50mb to 100mb

Engineer is here now. he said he was speakin to the Network tech here in Derry and it seems there could be a network fault and thats why users aren't gettin the full 100mb

---------- Post added at 10:54 ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 ----------

Seems to be a ****in (sorry for my language im a bit unhappy) severe case of IF you get somebody helpful or that can be bothered from Virgin Media. The engineer said he wasn't a 'computer guy'. Really?

I think I was basically fobbed off by the engineer's. When I asked about installing the older 50mb router (which is what he was supposed to do in the first place) HE REFUSED! I rang VM after they left to confirm there was a fault and he said there is/was general maintenance on the 100mb providence wide but that there was no particular fault in my area.

The new engineer said the first engineer had put too big an Attentuator on my line (15db) and changed it down to a 4db one and told me my power levels were perfect, which again the VM tech advised was wrong as the max they allow was 55 and it was showin as 55.2

Re: Upgrade from 50mb to 100mb

Well, as part of the 50-100mb upgrade thread, I thought I'd add my tuppence...

Turned away my VM engineer after refusing the installation. I'd had prior agreement with the CEO's office that I would be able to use my current VMNG300 on 100MB. Spoke with the guy's supervisor directly and explained how I'd been made a mug of for 13 months on a previous change of CPE and that ISPA and CISAS were involved. The guy made out like the CEO's office didn't know what they were talking about and that they were wasting their (the frontline staff's) time. They even tried to state that it was technically impossible to use 100mb on a VMNG300. Ahhhh, bless, VM and their lying to customers. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside

After I advised them both where the Superhub would be best left the poor engineer, stuck in the middle, left sharply.

Seems like the CEO guys are hated on a daily basis. Funny, that, as when my 50mb service disconnected for over a year, whilst paying full service charge, I felt the same and at that point I decided that I will never beta test another piece of hardware at my own expense.

Never mind. As previously stated I'll just sit on my current hardware until it breaks and then shift suppliers and VM won't get any more money out of me. Everybody wins.

Re: Upgrade from 50mb to 100mb

Well after my previous rant earlier on I seen a different Virgin Media van pull up at around 1.30. Turned out to be the Network Admin for Northern Ireland... I nearly choked lol!

He said there was an intermittent fault but that it had been sorted and done a fair few speed tests hard wired an achieved 95mb/s every single time. Was good to chat to this guy as he obviously knew what he was chatting about.

I was happy that my modem was producing the speed but the pooperhub wasnt spitting it out properly so when he left I rang Tech and asked about the wireless issues and he told me "WE CAN NOT SUPPORT YOUR WIRELESS PROBLEMS". Well I nearly ****ing choked when he said that. VM have supplied me with a product they don't supply support on?!

He went in to a whole big spiel about how virgin ONLY offer wireless connections because its what customers want and they ONLY supply the pooperhub because customers that ask 'Why can't I have a hub like BT?'. He said "Virgin Media only supply wireless because of the same reason Toys'R'Us do" Which doesn't even make sence!. Last time I checked they didnt!

These are his direct words btw, wish I had of recorded the call for pure comedy value. He then went on with the stonewall approach when I asked for my VMG300 to be placed back on the account as I wasn't anywhere near happy with the pooperhub and even told me putting the VMG300 back on the account COULD 'break' the provisioning on my account and that he was putting it in the notes because if it did it was my fault because I asked for it to be done.

I said I was on a forum where several people have contacted the CEO's office and been changed back to the VMG300 and are satisfied with the performance they got off it. Even then he said he still didnt want to put it on my account and the only way to get it done with be to contact the CEO's office.

I was gettin beyond fed up by this stage so I just said "look, im not gonna let it get that far, BT Infinity has just been installed in our area and you're going to give me a good reason to cancel my VM services and switch to them!" to which he replied that he would 'try' and put it on my account but he was sure it wouldn't work as my modem would have been deactived. Well guess what? IT DID!

Im now up an running on my original VMG300 and router and getting the service I should.

**** your Pooperhub!

Re: Upgrade from 50mb to 100mb

Yeah I was having problems with superhub so I just emailed VM asking for a VMNG300 modem it arrived today. I emailed them yesterday afternoon.

I emailed Neil Berkett directly, they gave me some private number to phone as well 0800 number to activate the modem. It's all up and running smoothly again now.

Virgin don't guarantee wireless speeds, only wired. That's my new favourite saying
