Re: TiVo
I don't think I'll bother going with the pre-reg order at the moment. I can appreciate that this is a premium product and Virgin can't give it away for free but I do think they should have at least had a sliding scale of pre-reg charges rather than the blanket offer they sent (and I got today)
I'm on VIP50 and have always been on the top tier since oooooh 1999 and also have 3 Virgin Mobiles on contract. I grant you that this is my choice but I think I must be paying 'Virgin' around £160 a month hence it would have been nice to have had a little more off than the £50 as part of the pre-reg offer.
I'll get it when it comes downs substantially. It would be nice to get it booked in but you know, the V+ when you think about it is more than adequate.

Lets not forget TiVo is still a work in progress, it may have lots of new features, but there are lots missing ones as well. There are lots of comments on here and other forums stating these will be added in the future.

For NEW customers maybe, as it's new tech then fair enough!
My beef is that, we ALL assumed that the deal was gonna be good for the pre-reg, (at least minus the £40 install fee)
You only need to look at the sheer amount of replys venting their dissapointment at todays offer!
Now i KNOW that DF doesn't control the pricing, and i know it's not HIS fault, but he definitely didn't help matters with constant contributions to this thread in the days up to todays email, about the pre-reg's will get a good deal, and many other posts to that like!
All this i should goto sky, and if i dont like it p**s off, doesn't fly with me, i am as excited and looking forward to this box as the rest of you guys, but when somethings not fair, i am of the opinion of speaking out!
And THIS is the tivo thread, and THIS is where that opinion COUNTS and matters!
So if you dont like it TOUGH deal with it!

Yes as DF said there will be more info on pricing and stuff in the next few days.
The is nothing arrogant at all about VM staff saying if you don't like the price then don't get it. It will eventually go down in price and there will of course be a cheaper TiVo box coming out.
However for now TiVo is a premium product and there has a premium price attached.
|
Very few products start life without a premium price tag, for example look at the price of DVD players. If you want it now you have to pay. However I agree that a quality & honest deal (ie. information that cheaper deals on the way) should be available for loyal customers which would surely encourage people to stay with virgin.

Re: TiVo
.
I was lucky enougth to get it for free but if not then............
My thoughts........
Cost of TiVo @ £149 a great deal and I would have signed up without a thought
Cost of TiVo + £40 install, would have felt hard done by but still gone ahead as it would still be cheaper than a 1tB box from Sky.
The box is worth it at the price as a premium product, I paid £150 for the SA TVDrive and was more than happy with it.
I hope that VM drop the £40 for pre-reg people and do a deal for VIP to reflect the status of the package, but if they don't then its down to each individual to decide if they want it enopugth to pay the price or if they will wait for the price to drop some time in the future.
If you do go for it you won't be disappointed apart from the known problems like no red button...........

DVD players didn't start expensive and come down in price because thats what Toshiba/Sony et al wanted - they reduced in price because demand for them enabled them to be made cheaper and sold at a decent margin at a reduced price.
If VM don't generate enough demand initially, then how do they plan to drive the cost down but maintain a margin?

Re: TiVo
Well as a VIP 50 customer I'm very disappointed with today's email. The promised revised VIP packages have failed to materialise, and £189 + £3 pm seems excessive. I'd probably be happy if they dropped the £40 install and the monthly £3 for VIP customers. I haven't got too much of an objection to a one of fee of £149.

I called Sky earlier this evening after that TiVo email where VM called me valued customer whilst getting my name wrong and trying to rob me blind!
They were happy to do me the 1TB box for £150 when I mentioned that's the price a friend has just got it for. They also offered free installation with a price of £98.50 all in for everything (TV, BB, Phone) including a 2nd HD box.
I then proceeded to called VM and choose the thinking of leaving us option, explaining my reasons regarding TiVo and the helpful young lady mentioned the price in my email today won't be the final one come launch. This seems in line with what DF is saying.
Glad VM are listening and a lower price will mean they will most likely continue to receive my £100 a month. I feel this would be the best outcome for both VM and myself.

Fair comment. That wasn't the kind of post I was refering to though; it wasn't a simple 'leave it' because you explained the reason why.

Maybe they have used Pre Reg as a sounding board to see how much they will pay.

Don't do that, buy a 1TB disk from ebuyer for £35. You could then spend the savings on TiVo!

Did she indicate it would go down or just that it would change?
