Yeah, Sky won't allow their content in the main guide on TiVo.

How are they able to differentiate a TiVo box from the V+ though or is it something that they're instructing VM to do on their behalf (blocking the feed)?

The boxes are on slightly different platforms within VM. It's a contractual obligation put on Virgin Media from BSkyB.
They don't want any of their content shown in the quarter screen on TiVo.
