There is no installation, you post the shub2's to customers and they hook them up just like they have been doing with the shub1's for the last couple of years. It pee'd me off when I upgraded to 50mbit and I had to pay a £50 installation charge and a £30 activation fee when all the tech did is bring the vmng300 to my house, I hooked it up and he made a phone call to register the mac address. It was an absolute joke. Luckily I got away with it for 100mbit because they had an offer on at the time (and I didn't want the shub anyways).

Well said, that's what I was saying as well. It's a silly amount of money for a modem swap out and a phone call. Nearly £50 for frankly 10mins work at worst case is a joke.
If there has to be an install fee, surely it could be priced at a more sensible level?

The only logic I think you're applying is that a "premiere" customer is entitled to something that others aren't.
VM need only provide the SH2 to customers whose service is failing due to equipment supplied (SH1) and which is rectified by SH2.

I can't think why. It's a phone call to activate and no adjustables are applicable.

No the logic i am applying is that Premiere collection and V.I.P collections are now advertised with The new superhub as standard.Surely if you are paying the same money you are entitled to the same equipment and service.

Could be because it's a new piece of equipment? Virgin always does this with new equipment, they did it with the SuperHub and even the Ambit 300 (although admittedly the latter was the first DOCSIS3 device so that makes sense).

They're also advertised as 6 months half price. Do you think you should get a discount on your bill as well?

No, because I can understand the reasons to provide sweeteners to new customers via cash incentives.

Re: superhub 2
Yeah, I don't really see the distinction between offering money off your service charge and offering money off an installation charge.

Yes, but existing customers have already paid install charges.
And if it was ok to send trialists the new superhub on self install whats wrong with the rest of us doing the same.

In that case, I imagine that if you are out of contract and renew, then you could ask for the same kit as is supplied to a new customer.

Perhaps two reasons why trialists were trusted to self-install:
1. There was a dedicated Virgin Media team supporting the trialists for all problems arising;
2. The trialists are more knowledgeable than the normal Virgin Media customer.

If I lease a car for say 3 years and a new model comes out with a higher spec after 2 years - they don't give me the new model. I can, however, either wait until the end of the current contract and get the new model or pay to end the deal mid contract and get the new model.
There is no differention between wether I lease a base model car or a high spec car
Isn't this the same scenario?

As with any distribution curve, there will always be a few at either end of the scale.
Reason 1 was, of course, the primary reason.

Also I'd guess
3. The trial SH2 came straight from the manufacturer so weren't in the installer supply chain
4. It would have delayed the trial to wait for engineers to attended every trial address compared with doing it via the post
