Can you give me a reason why it has to be whole month ? (without using the words "probably", "possibly", "most likely" etc.
So people dont sign up to sports, watch the game they want to watch and then cancel only paying probably 1 (2 days max) subscription.

The billing system charges you part month yes of course they will... it makes sense not to make people wait or give the part month away for free, yet when you cancel it can also refund you part month if you cancel in the middle of a billing period too.

Cant see why you are annoyed to be honest.

What get's my goat is that they made me pay for the remainder of the month even when I told them I didn't want the service. I don't see what harm it does them to charge me part month and clearly as in acoolwelshbloke's case they can do it if they so wish.
