Re: cable connections from TiVo?

You'll have to check your TV manual to see what settings there are. Every one is different. But if you tell us which TV model you've got, someone may be able to advise.

The right settings are the ones that look best to you.

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

Following on from my previous post, I really do not think this picture quality is as good as it should be. On alot of SD channels any faces not right at the front of the screen appear out of focus and pixilated. Reading the forums at Virgin it seems there may be an issue with some TiVo boxes, but I don;t think I can settle for this when I have paid out for a new tv. IHas anyone else had an issue with picture quality with a TiVo box and as I have had mine for just 2 weeks, is a V+ box better? Thanks

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

There is a problem with the interlacing on SD channels which is supposed to be corrected in the October? update. Some SD channels are very bad any way i.e eurosport.

Some additional information would be useful like model of TV and how far you are sitting from it. If closer than the recommended distance then things will look worse.

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

The tv is a 37" LG model 37LV45OU. I sit a good 10-15 " away and the pixilation and blurred picture is noticeable from there. I looked through all main SD channels just now and the picture is not at all sharp and when the weather came on the map behind was extremely out of focus. I am calling Virgin to get this box looked at today.

It does sound as if there is a problem with the output from the box, my daughter has a 37" LG and the picture I find very harsh even on HD ( they have a standard V HD box) and have never tried to adjust the picture settings on the LG) It usually viewed about the same distance as you (I assume you meant feet not inches as you wrote )

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

If only SD channels are affected and not the HD ones, it is likely to be the known TiVo problem. Until the software fix is released, your best option is to try various combinations of output setting on the TiVo. Also adjusting the TV picture settings may help.

You can use the HDMI lead for every channel.

I'm not really sure what you mean about the background being blurred. It's normal for some parts of a picture to be out of focus, and it's often the background - that's how lenses work, including the ones in your eyes (see the examples here). But try adjusting the picture settings on your TV, and you may be able to make it more to your taste.
Hi all I am a newbie here. I have a Tivo on order for delivery in December

I am just wondering seeing the above post how you would switch from say the main tv working on the scart connexion to a tv in the other room on an HDMI connexion

Any advice on this would be appreciated thanks

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

You don't need to switch anything. On TiVo the SCART and HDMI outputs both work all the time.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

Re: cable connections from TiVo?

Thanks spiderplant, now I wonder how well that HDMI will work with about 8 metres of cable

Indeed they do, I had a dual hookup going on so I could be using my PC on the main 32" LCD with a little 14" monitor with the SCART hooked up to keep a BBC News feed going.

In fact there's something I haven't tested on the 15.2 update and that's if the SCART output is now proper RGB rather than CVBS.
