Re: BT Broadband - Rubbish Service

BT is one of if not the only ISP to check by using your phone line

So you dont actually need a username n password, just a username

if your router wont let u do this without a password, put in "BT", should let you conect fine

took 3 hours to get that out of a malaysian call center...

Re: BT Broadband - Rubbish Service

as for the pw/user name, i had the same issue last year, in the morning it was working fine, but in the evening ( i didnt switch off the pc or router) i went to use it and couldnt, so i also spoke to the india helpdesk and they didnt have a clue, after 45mins on the phone i was told tha a fault is being raised and it will take 72 hours!! so i putthe phone down on him, called straight back, spoke to some one in the UK who then told me that my password and user name need resetting??!!! i never even knew i had one, he could tell me how to sort it and told me i have to call india again!! i did and told the chap that i need my pw/username resetting, he talked me through it, ( its the router that needs the reset !!) i had the same thing (ish) given to me, well the same night and 1.5hours later on the phone to bt it was done, im not changing isp at the mo, cos i want to moive house so i can get cable but over all, BT is reliable, the down side, its the cost of the broad band from them, i pay 26.99pm and my line only supports 1mb but thats just for the data allowance they let me have, what a load of bull!!THEY SHOULD OFFER UNLIMITED usage and price their speeds not data allowance!! so i cant wait to move later in the year cos 20mb virgin i will get

Re: BT Broadband - Rubbish Service

thats the option that im on, i mean they should charge for the speed not the data!! , infact im on option 2, ( but 2 years ago i signed to option 3??) im out of my 12 month contract and DONT want to sign another at the mo, so as i say, with Virgin, they charge for what speed you want, yet BT charge for the DATA allowance, so i pay 26.99per month and can only get 1mb connection, yet someone who lives closer to the exchange will pay the same price yet the will get faster speeds!! :/ thats my point!

Limitations of the technology i'm afraid

Back when most of the exchanges were built they didn't have the internet let alone broadband!

Adsl is an amazing technology given what it has to work over!

Re: BT Broadband - Rubbish Service

Clearly, the original poster has had a peculiar problem and the BT staff involved ought to have ben more helpful.

I have to say though that I have had a considerable improvement of late my BT Broadband speeds are over 4meg near 5meg, and no drop outs, no ,downtime, with ntl 4meg service my speeds were 3meg often 2.5meg - with drop outs most of the time. I would suggest people have different experiences, our BT hub seems to work fine over DSL or wireless and frankly I think I'm getting a far superior service with BT for £17 a month than I with ntl's 4meg package at £25 a month.

So BT Broadband is good.

For the original poster
My BT BB settings on my none bt router are.....
VPI 0

Encapsulation PPPoA VC-Mux

User name is usually the person named on the bill in the following format
joebloggsATbtinternet.com or joe.bloggsATbtinternet.com
and no you shouldn't need a password at all, hope that helps .

I believe, though I stand to be corrected, that it's called India all of the time.

Forgive me for my impudent insolence in supplementing your excellent answer, but I believe the locals call it Bhārat (or Bhārata).
