You shouldn't, I forgot I was seeding a torrent once and left it up and running for about 3 days, went away for the weekend and left my machine on.

Uploaded about 5-6gig and not had a *******ing yet......just make sure you change the deafult port your torrent client is running on.

I was commenting on the original post....answer, no here. I'm new to the bittorent client thingy.....since I first used azureus in feb this year, I've had no probs leaving the pc on seeding for days. 200 gb in 4 months uploaded. Well within the recent rules now obselete. I pay good money for a service and ntl provide that service. Don't really see what the problem is....

no problem here, unless we contend, evidence for me, so far, is that we do not

Ive only used BT's a few times if I need something and my normal sources do not have it.I must say the technology is amazing but the application is awful I hate p2p

The same arguments can be made against downloading/uploading anything using HTTP, FTP, NNTP etc. There's nothing special about Bittorrent.

In fact, there's much more in the way of "illegal" material available on Usenet, but how often do you hear people condemning NNTP?

I use usenet and NNTP sucks too.The only thing makes it worth using is the good old nzb

If your seeding 24/7 which my server does 365. set your maximum upload speed nice and low mine is 5k a sec... this means you help the community more by keeping the link alive longer but dont go soaking up all the bandwidth. It also has the added benefit of not degrading your normal activities..

In answer to the OP I have never had a problem with leaving BT running 24/7, and have never had any contact regarding my usage

every torrent site I come across only asks users upload to maintain 1:1 ratio they dont ask people to upload 24/7, thats the main point I was coming across.

if you take a large file then it might take a couple of days to upload 1:1 and if a large number of people drop off as soon as they get there then the people still d/l the file might only get it very slowly.
That is why it can be helpful to leave it running a bit longer.
I do not condone people u/l huge numbers as this might stop some getting there ratio.
To call it 'immoral' is way over the top IMHO
