They'd have done that already if it was a simple update. But it isn't. It wipes all recordings, so they need the customer to 'opt in'.

I won't be opting in. The 360 is a downgrade from Tivo, but tbh i could live with it , if it still has a recording facility. However the stream box which is the next step, will make VMs 'service' pointless. You don't need to pay them for that, your tv or many other devices will do that without paying VM.

If you upgrade your V6 to the 360 software, your box, or boxes if you have more than one, will still all record. I didn’t realise that I assumed it would be the main box that recorded on my secondary V6 would be bricked from recording but both of them record.

I upgraded in May or June when I kept getting notices about losing some functions. I had nothing important recorded at that point so it made sense to just do it then when I wasn’t losing anything major. I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would. I’ve managed to find workarounds for a few things. If I had my choice, I would still go with the TiVo software mostly for the wish lists. I realise everyone has different priorities and everyone uses things differently but that’s the main thing I miss being able to put in a program or an actor that I want to record when it comes up. The other thing I miss is that it will pull it from multiple channels not just one besides that I’m coping okay.

Is it possible to create multiple requests for different channels for the same actor?

Would you mind sharing what other workarounds you've found?

I’m sorry if I gave the impression I found an I’m sorry if I gave the impression I found a workaround for that. Actor “ wish list “ is one of the things I haven’t really been able to find a work around for. I still do searches and it shows what programs they’ve got coming up or and what channels have them, and if that program is showing on more than one channel you can actually program it to record both of those channels. I don’t see a way of searching to make a“wish List link” like we could with TiVo. Same with setting up series links, when it shows you a program it also shows you the other channels that it’s on so you can choose which channel to set the series link on or the recording. And I have successfully set up recordings on both channels. I haven’t tried setting up the series link on both channels.

I have a lot of watchlist stuff stored now as opposed to Wishlists and that reminds me that I need to go watch them. My fear is that I will not get round to watching them before they disappear off of whatever channel they’re currently on.


I can’t think of the top of my head of any of the other major workarounds. I know everyone keeps saying that they don’t like voice shortcuts, but I actually do. I use it all the time with my fire stick when I’m searching rather than typing all the letters in of the thing I’m searching for so to literally say recordings, subtitles on, watchlist, et cetera is actually really easy and saves a whole bunch of button presses and honestly saves a whole lot of space on the remote control because it’s one button to press in one word to say. I wouldn’t change to 360 for that reason but I do find it a benefit. It doesn’t compensate for stuff we lost, but it works well and I like it.

I’ve just had it since early June, so there’s still things I can learn, but I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would. I just miss those specific things. The most I hate not being able to just set and forget. I’ve gotta keep an eye out for the next series of things to start that I haven’t been able to set up since I got it. I have been able to set a few serious links with things that aren’t showing the occurrence season, but are showing old seasons and I have set series links to start with the new season, I learned that tip on here and by experimenting with that I kind of found how to get into the series links and personalise them. Once it’s set for new though I can’t find that link anymore. I just have to trust that it’s there.

Sorry, I’m kind of babbling. I’m just trying to think if there’s anything else off the top of my head. If I do think of anything else that I’ve found or anything new that could help with some of the old TiVo functions that were integral to what we liked I will post here.
