I think yours maybe the same but with an external enclosure for some reason, but you should be able to tell.

Shrouds and enclosed shrouds like that are the common practice on new build homes. Generally the developers and construction workers plan and install the optical cable through the walls with the electrics so that they come out via a wall socket somewhere in the property and these cases used to cover what was essentially a hole in the wall behind it.

I generally find it good practice to at least use some form of ONT shroud rather than have two screws and the ONT slotting onto them.

It is in the cupboard next to the front door. The fuse box and electric meter and solar fuse and meter are mounted there too. The fibre optical cable comes in the front all and it just loose up till it is connected to the ONT.

Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

Aye, a lot has changed now.

Its fairly standard now that the majority of new build houses with the exception of a few infamous builders ive listed above to provide the option of multiple FTTP providers in one go (Openreach, Altnets and Virgin) pre-installing the optics in the property as its built and then Openreach, Virgin and whatever Altnet got a contract will come out and install the external equipment and an ONT.

On top of that, ive noticed a lot are laying CAT6 all over the builds and ethernet sockets in every room which is a great idea alongside the media sockets in living areas for virgin services.

All great ideas really.

Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

Tomorrow is my day of installation 8am-1pm by M J Quinn Integrated Services, I've received the Fritz!Box 7530 AX, login details and my IP Address I just hope they drill through the house wall in the most convenient spot and don't try and route the cable through the house.

Is it up to me to plug the Fritz!Box in and set it up or is it normal for them to do it?

Just tell them where you want it and don't let them fob you off.

That's my plan and it is pretty straightforward assuming they don't have trouble cabling up to my front door underground, but there is ducting there for the original BT line and VM, so I assume they will be using the BT one.

---------- Post added at 17:04 ---------- Previous post was at 16:46 ----------

Are Openreach aloud to use VMs ducting because I know this isn't blocked as I had a repull a few years ago, my BT ducting on the other hand does have cabling in it that's connected to the house but has never been used in the 28yrs it's been in, I'm guessing they could use the existing BT wire to pull the other cable through? My concern is I live down paved road but I saw VM lifting a drain cover 30 yards from my house so is it likely that cover has access to both BT and VM ducting?

Openreach cannot use VM's ducting. As to the siting of you ONT you can request your preference then it is up to the engineer. Most will do it within reason but contractors are paid by the job so want to do as many in a day as possible. They prefer the quick easy way.
They have the right to just walk away and sign the job off as "unable to complete" if they consider it unreasonable just as you have the right to refuse innstall.
