Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

Another couple questions, when Openreach pull the cable and fit the ONT inside the house do they also connect it up to the modem and test it out or is that upto me to wait for it to go live after he's left?

Can anyone please provide a photo of what I should expect in the way of an ONT box inside the house, I'm hoping it'll be one little box next to a mains socket but a Google search leaves me unsure.

I'll be sent my modem 4 days before the Openreach install date, I was just wondering if an Openreach engineer would then plug it in to test the service, but as all modems are different I guess it'll be left to me to do it, possibly.

Normally Openreach will make sure all is working before leaving provided it is already acttivated by the ISP.

Otherwise they will check they will check the connection to the head end.

The ONT (modem) is about 3"x 3".

Thanks, I'll use the socket behind my living room door so I won't be able to see the lights.

Has anyone had any experience with the AVM Fritz!Box 7530AX modem supplied? I only have a 2 bedroom house so I don't need to purchase my own.

I'm just hoping there are no limitations so I don't have issues with my IPTV services being blocked where I can't stop it by clicking a setting?

Yes I have the 7530AX, they supply it to those using 500 or 900 mb. Seems a decent bit of kit compared to the VM offerings, had no problems with it and the interface has far more options than the VM hub offered. You can also get the 3000AX repeater off them for a monthly fee but I bought one direct from Germany, works well as a mesh system.
The ONT has a power supply with a fairly short cable. probably less than a metre so if possible get them to install near a mains socket though i suppose you could use an extension cable to get juice to it.

You're welcome, you will get a router allredy configured for you ISP (other settings may be avaiklable to you). The ONT is also what you call a Mo0dem or acts in the same way, it changes the light signal into an electrical one that the router can understand.

All very interesting thanks all.

I remember reading that you had to wait a while for a connection to settle once switched on with older broadband, is it the same with FTTP?

No, it should just work.

Openreach will test the fibre connection to the ONT is working.

You will have to connect your router into the ONT's ethernet port.
