His age when committing the crimes, 17, means the judge cannot impose a life term. One more year and he would get no chance of getting out which I'd hope would bring the families some comfort. However now it's a sentence more akin to looking over your shoulder.

The key word is ‘minimum’. If he survives until 2077, they will review whether he is safe to release under licence or if they keep him inside.

Its unlikely any of us will still be around in 2077 to know.
Nor I would think will most of the parents [of the children involved].

He's deranged, shouting paramedic in court. Was that him talking about himself or making fun of the injured needing medical help. What's he going to do with the money? His family can't cash in on it.

"This vile offender has played the system and will now enjoy the freedoms that are afforded mentally unwell patients in secure psychiatric hospitals, including benefits that law abiding tax payers will fund.

Benefits for the criminal mentally ill? I guess the saving grace would be the accumulation of money triggering deductions in payments.

Sally Jameson, a junior housing minister and former prison officer, she told LBC: "It's not right, I sincerely hope that he won't be qualifying for benefits."

She said prison hospitals are "not like ordinary hospitals", adding: "He will be kept under very stringent conditions, befitting actually to his crime, but also the level of security that needs to be put around him.

"And I'm confident that he will be returned to prison as soon as possible and serve out his sentence.

"And I agree that should be under the most punitive and solitary conditions."

It's not really her choice. It's up to the medically certified to make judgement
