Update: Axel Rudakubana pleads guilty to all Southport attack charges
 

2 children dead, 6 critical.

Details are slow in coming out.

But if it transpires that the reports on social media are correct…big “if” I know…….then the way this is being reported is abhorrent.

Keeping my powder dry until more facts come out.

A 17-year-old, originally from Cardiff, has been arrested.

As he is 17, I don't think his identity will be published anytime soon. At least not by the police.

Just seen a report that the attacker was indeed “born in Cardiff” ……

If true, changes the narrative somewhat and was the reason I was hesitant to weigh in.

We’ll see.

The issue was that social media chatter, not to be trusted hence my hesitancy, was that the attacker was an immigrant, named, that was initially housed in Cardiff then moved to Southport.

This was fuelled even further when the news outlets said “originally from Cardiff”.

News outlets have now revised that to “Born in Cardiff”. Which changes the narrative substantially, and most like calls BS to what’s been on social media all day. We wait and see.

My thought exactly. Children are innocent. They went for a fun day out, did not deserve this and neither they or their parents expected this. The survivors, their families and the families of the deceased must be beside themselves tonight. How do the survivors - young children - begin to comprehend what happened and go about their daily lives without fear of this happening again?

I would never (ever) believe "chatter" on social media.
I consider it largely useless as a reliable source for news.
[ 99% of the time, I only even view it when following links posted here ].

I would expect following conclusion of a trial it would be deemed in the public interest. Indeed the 17 year old would turn 18 at some point in the forthcoming process if/when charges are brought etc. and lose the right to anonymity.

A nine year old girl died overnight, the two killed yesterday were 6 and 7 (all three were girls).

Five children and two adults remain in a critical condition.
