Now Khabir trains thousands of men—mostly Syrians and Yemenis—to fight in an ISIS base situated in the Mexico-U.S. border region near Ciudad Juárez, the intelligence gathered by JW’s source reveals. Staking out U.S. targets is not difficult and Khabir actually brags in an Italian newspaper article published last week that the border region is so open that he “could get in with a handful of men, and kill thousands of people in Texas or in Arizona in the space of a few hours.”

A little mentioned reason (media wise) for the wall is IS terrorists coming in to the US via Mexican drug cartels

Difference in dimensions, not in sentiment.

Not at all. I'm merely pointing out that walls can and do stop people from acheiving their aims, be they terrorism or illegal immigration.
Obviously, I'm against walls as a first resort but sometimes we have to build them.

I'm against Walls as a last resort too...especially the sort that were built in the ghettos of World War 2.

Re: Calais migrants: Work to start on UK-funded wall
But given we don't have a fanatical right wing militaristic government building them i think we can forget the comparisons with 1940\45, not convinced a wall is the right way to go too easy for the traffickers to use it to sell their service. I can see it now all over the middle east and north africa **** showing puctures of the wall telling people it's there because life is so good on the other side and the evil westerner's don't want to share. I'd rather an increase in border staff and instead of illegals found at the ports being sent to costly detention centres we put them on the first ferry back to the mainland cut out the bogus asylum claims save a fortune on the detention centres and the administrative side of all the asylum claims.
Of course that needs a government that is prepared to put two fingers up to the civil rights brigade and actually implement it, i won't hold my breath.

Re: Calais migrants: Work to start on UK-funded wall
Look there is a difference between a wall which protects infrastructure or a valuable bit of land and once which divides a country up. The wall to protect a motorway is not the same as bricking up dover. The comparisons to Trump are pointless. This wall is fine.

We don't have a fanatical right-wing government but it's the citizenry and the 'civil rights brigade' what will help ensure we never do. As a wider point it's also a good idea never to give the government powers which a fanatical authoritarian, left or right, government would find useful.

I think a bigger threat to the problem continuing is people getting on trucks at service stations further down the motorway.

Or a wide moat? Let's say, 25 miles or more wide.

Re: Calais migrants: Work to start on UK-funded wall
I really cannot stop laughing at all the measures being taken by the UK and French Governments over this idiotic idea of preventing Migrants getting into trucks/cars/tunnel - this will NOT stop them.
There are professional gangs operating on both of the channels to get migrants through.
Look what happened the other day. Gangs are setting fire to cars and tyres t make vehicles stop. And then migrants jump onto vehicles.
The only way we can stop these migrants even entering the area - is finding these traffickers in there tracks.
I have been saying all along, the money that is being wasted on building high walls, fences. Should be spent on finding these people.
And not only that, we could build walls that are as high as PRISON WALLS. Or as an extreme measure have ELECTRIFIED fences. that if Migrants try and climb over then they will get Burned. Providing there are signs up. They have been warned
Its like any criminal gang. THEY WILL FIND A WAY ON GETTING ONTO A VEHICLE

Arthur do you honestly not know we are doing that we have dedicated resources allocated to finding the traffickers trouble is they don't wear badges id'ing themselves as traffickers. Fast as we get a few more pop up because it's a very lucrative business you really need to do just five minutes of research before posting it would stop many of your rants once you find out other people have figured out long ago what has occured to you recently.
