if only it were a windup
http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...HMCE_CL_001174
'climate change levy' on all business utility bills
been going on for a while - but I haven't exploded with rage about it before now for some strange reason
I rang them up and asked what the F@*& it was supposed to be for 'when it was at home'
it's to make industries and businesses use less power she replies on the end of the phone
but we are a catering outlet I explain - are we supposed to just 'cook less'
and she was a bit dumbfounded after that
I ask you - it's all gone mad - maybe madder

These rates of CCL are intended to change business behaviour in the UK to reduce energy consumption and/or consider using energy produced from renewable sources such as wind farms, solar energy and hydro power.

Yup, that's exactly what they want you to do.........or install a windmill

Re: if only it were a windup
Most of these greasy spoons I've been to cut corners on hygiene anyway so I'm sure a few more cuts here and there won't be a problem.

Re: if only it were a windup
How ridiculous ... Surely the way to get businesses to use renewable energy more would be to give grants to those willing to find alternative renewable options.
This is just another "silent" tax...

with these scores on the doors as they call them being viewable via a website
perhaps best not serve stuff luke warm as you suggest then

Not sure I said anything about serving food "Luke warm" *goes back to check* nope, I didn't.
What I said was so many I've been to in South Wales seem to cut corners when it comes to hygiene. As a result I'd rather eat at a gastro-pub or similar than a greasy spoon.
