Re: superhub 2

I've had no issues with v19 so I'm happy to wait, especially as nobody's pushed a changelog yet.

I mean come on, what a graph!

Re: superhub 2

Kush

Modem mode was always perfect.

On the VM triallist forum there is a change log. Without breaking the forum rules, it's a stability version.

Re: superhub 2

Yeah exactly, it's not a big deal for me. I hate to say it, but it's a better modem than my trust old VMNG300.

Re: superhub 2

Yes it is better than the VMNG300 in modem mode. It has 8 DS channels enabled for a start!

Edited the word "enabled" in!!

But so does the VMNG300! They're just not enabled.

Yes, all it needed was a firmware upgrade to enable them. VM wouldn't release one as they want everyone on the SH.

Yes, we've determined before the baseband supports 8 channels and the tuner is capable of something like 16.75 channels - can't remember the exact figure - but in any case, well in excess of what is needed.

Re: superhub 2

I believe that the 16 channels is the pool for load balancing the service groups into 8 channel bonding groups. Every SH tuner sees all 16 channels for everyone on the node and filters through BPI+ what passes through to the client.

Re: superhub 2

How interesting. Although I do know that Virgin was out of contract with the people who write the firmware. I remember that there was a bug in the firmware a while ago and the issue stayed open for ages as they had to negotiate a new contract in order to get an updated firmware rolled out. Cost about £1 per modem if I recall - so perhaps that's partly why Virgin wanted everyone off them.

Re: superhub 2

The tuner "sees" any contigous block of channels it's pointed at, could just as easily be 10 channels of pay-per-view porn and 6 channels of DOCSIS...

Perhaps. Though the (non-VM) base version of the modem itself had been sold with 8 channels to other customers, they could have just pulled that firmware but would have lost or had to pay extra to stick the VM logo back on it

£1 a modem isn't that bad considering they used to charge £75 for a subsidized Superhub 1...

I'm explaining how it works in the DOCSIS environment.

Re: superhub 2

I thought Ignition had pretty much debunked the VMNG300's supposed ability to support more than 4 downstreams ages ago? Pretty sure someone found the design documents and it only ever had the hardware to support 4.
