50M : Is Super Hub not so Super?

I've had my Superhub now for a few weeks; very pleased with it and wireless performance is good, covers the whole house

Reading over on Virgin Community Forums and the number of times VM are sending out replacement SH's is outrageous. I mean not just one, some posters are on number 3 and 4!!
They also seem to send out complete SH kits, when all some people want is a replacement PSU!?!?!?
Really makes you wonder what this is costing VM in real money terms. They should have canned this a long time ago

It's embarrassing, virgin talk about saving money with the way tech Indians work then grossly waste money in another area

PSU's are not supplied separately and never have been for any modem so you get a complete package including modem, it is probably cheaper than ordering separate PSU's as you would need a large quantity of different types in order to keep up with demand.

Consider VM only have the one CPE which they are currently issuing and swap out modems for it whenever they go wrong I can't see why they don't stock superhub PSUs. The number of installers that leave the old ones in requiring later replacement plus the number that annoy people with a high pitched whistle means there must be many otherwise serviceable Superhubs in landfill because VM ship out hubs and psus when only a psu is needed.

No, the psu comes separately, it's virgin folk in the big red shed who put a hub and a psu in one box and send it out. I have to order psus separately and they come into the depot separately. If they came in the same box everyone would have the correct psu.

The has never been an option to order them separately though so regardless of them coming separately no agent can send a PSU out.

exactly. If they want to flipping cut costs they should stop sending shubs out unneccessarily and all the money they save from that they could re0invest in buying proper routers because they would only need to send them out when someone actually needs one.

It's a false economy, they may be saving £5 a hub over a better Cisco model but the replacements, loyalty discounts,wasted engineer visits and folk leaving they'd be in a better financial position to have gone with a decent model, also the reputation would be better.

you have hit the nail on the head; their whole operation is too costly and inefficient. They need someone to go in and completely re-do it. If they offered better quality cpe they would have less than half the number of calls and faults that they have now and they wouldnt need to throw shubs around like confetti.

I volunteer, mon General. And what's more, I could do it. My plan would include:

1. Immediately trial a vanilla DOCSIS 3 cable modem with a view to introducing it

2. Immediately trial a high reputation DOCSIS 3 Gateway with a view to making it a paid-for option

3. Put a drop dead deadline on getting the SH firmware right in stability terms (wireless will never be brilliant - but if they get the firmware right it's a get-you-going device)

4. I'd lobby the VM bosses for keeping it all vanilla - no more vain branding -no more "sylish" uselessisms.

That's a start at least. Won't happen nor anything like it.

Virgin Media, and for the last 20 plus years in all it's previous guises, has always suffered from Chronic Short Termism and Bargain Bucket Syndrome.

I cannot see The Leopard changing it's spots anytime soon.
