Is Super Hub not so Super?
 

I have a 50MB connection with a Super Hub modem/Router. I only recently got myself a Tablet and tried connecting up in my bedroom but got no single. I find this strange as I get a perfectly good signal in my lounge immediately below my bedroom (using the same tablet). I find this very frustrating as the distance can't be more than 20/30 feet.

Isn't this what a router is designed to do?

A decent wireless router is designed to do what you want. But the SH is a wretched piece of router junk. It has two postage stamp sized plates in exactly the wrong place facing the wrong way in a most beautifully crafted useless box. Tis thing will never do what you need for wireless (although it might for others who are in the same room as this thing).

Modem mode and your own wireless router is the only answer. But think about the router you buy and read up on its wireless legs. For an upstairs/downstairs thing, there are variables. A router with an external antenna pair/trio would to a better job than one with internal antennae.

Wireless performance depends on what is between you and the hub, for example walls and ceilings, depending on thickness can affect performance.

Not related to the OP but can we close this thread now because the nay sayers have had their say, with a few notable exceptions and it will just turn into another 'the superhub is crap, no it isn't debate'

Yeah, the orientation of this thing is critical, just a few cm one way or the other can make all the difference. Even standing a reflective surface at right angles to the end where the lights are can increase coverage. Not distance. I like ****ing about like that. A leftover from my RHam days when you had to sort your own problems.
Or as the man says get a decent router and put the junk into modem mode.

Oh dear! touchy, touchy, I suppose the notable exeptions will come on and tell us they have coverage when they where in Birmingham, and their Shub
was in London.:erm:

I kinda like the idea of the single box rather than a separate modem + a separate router. I also thought I probably was tied into the VM offering. Is there an alternative I can but then? and more importantly is it easy for a non techy to setup?;)

You've no choice, it's the Shub plus router or just the Shub.

I can't disagree with what you say. But VM don't allow/offer a higher end Gateway (Motorola for example). The SH is what you must eat and that's it.

VM have been asked for the past 1½ years to provide a paid-for decent alternative but there has been no rresponse from them on that as yet.

A shame - because their broadband offering is otherwise very good IMO.

I have a Netgear router somewhere (the one I used before the SH). Is it just a case of connecting the two together? Is it as easy as that?

No conspiracy here :D

It's just tedious when the same thing is in every thread about the Superhub, I appreciate that some think it's crap and others don't, it would just be nice for a change for the 'advice' which is generally good on here, to be given without starting 'another' the Superhub is crap no it isn't discussion.

The personal disagreements seem to get in the way of the point being discussed which is a shame.
