Re: VM targeted by Everything Everywhere?

Yes the do, and i'm telling you it has been tried and tested and doesn't work, the new owners would want to keep it closed for there own use, the only reason they want it is for the infrastructure to meet the increasing demand on mobile internet use and 4G, currently they pay BT and other fixed networks for this, with there own, they cut a lot of costs

Which the same reason the Sky network will be such a success as it will connect to Sky's 100Gb's nationwide fibre backbone.

Re: VM targeted by Everything Everywhere?

Utter ballcocks and it wont happen.

I'll show my ariase as the foot of my stairs.

So these private equity firms have upwards of £12bn? to throw about?

In that case why didn't they bid for C&W which they could have picked up for a snip at £1bn leaving loads of cash left to buy EE.

I don't see what value adding EE network to VM and vice versa wouldadd to the new company.

Virgin Mobile already uses the EE network, and EE already use VM to backhaul their traffic.

I also love the quote:

Quote:
Reports have also surfaced indicating that the group is considering a move for Virgin Media in a bid to create an entertainment and telecoms firm capable of rivalling BT and Sky.
They already do.......don't they?

just a load of tosh, written by somebody with a wonderful imagination

Not on the scale this proposed merger would create. Ask anyone who the top (in size/popularity) 2 companies are in the UK that supply multi-channel entertainment and I think people will say Sky and VM.

How would adding the EE mobile network to VM's fixed line network increase VM's ability to increase subscriber market share against Sky?

Re: VM targeted by Everything Everywhere?

By increasing what they can offer in their "all-in-one" packages. VM's mobile handsets have never been known for being the most up-to-date. Having a company that can offer the biggest network coverage, the best handsets, arguably one of the best tv packages, a high-speed internet network and a fixed line system - that makes them a powerhouse of a telco.

Re: VM targeted by Everything Everywhere?

I think the Sunday Times (where this story seems to have originated) may have put 2 and 2 together and got 5.

Apax and KKR are backing an attempt to buy EE (which is in itself by no means guaranteed to come off) and they are believed to have been sniffing around VM as well. But there is nothing to connect the two together.

That one hell of a deal just to get an Iphone on Virgin....................................

As that is all you're offering there above what VM can already deliver.

Well it wouldn't be on Virgin would it? EE could then offer a quality tv and home internet package.

You think they'd ditch the Virgin Brand in favour of EE..............................?

Nah, I think that's the end of this conversation.

If a buy-out was looking likely I can't see it being that much of a stumbling block that they couldn't overcome.

Nah, I think that's the end of this conversation.
"Everything Everywhere" isn't really a brand, more a corporate entity (which needed a name) that operates the two major brands called Orange UK and T-Mobile UK. I wouldn't expect to see "Everything Everywhere" filter down to b2b or b2c use. Virgin Media could continue to operate as is.

Re: VM targeted by Everything Everywhere?

I could understand bidding for VM if the football was still up for grabs, as they could have put in a big enough bid to beat Sky. This would have been a massive selling point for them. As it stands, VM still have debt but iirc it has been bonded and due to mature with interest in something like 10 years. So I doubt they would want to buy a company with that hanging over them.
