When I was on VM if I changemy routers MAC address to a certain 1 it would get CPC-11 if I changed the last digits ofthat MAC address to 35 its would get CPC-16. So I'm not saying I'm a network guru, Infact I suspect I probably only know as little as you. But facts are facts lol.

I understand disconnecting and reconnecting would also cause a switch but certain MAC/IP combinations got the same CPC EVERY time. Must of just been a fluke.. Also changing the MAC back to its original would get the same IP back. This is simply due to the way VM's IP "stick" to MACs. Incase you haven't noticed it is possible to have a static IP or a sticky IP. You're saying every reconnection is random ITS NOT.

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?

What he has said is correct so far as it goes and it is possible to keep a ping trace running on an old IP after it has been reassigned so long as the kit on it is set to respond to pings.

I think it's even correct to say that it will be reissued by the same CPC as that is an IP grouping but just what the benefit is of having a ping trace running on a connection when you have no idea of what it is being used for at any given time is beyond me.

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?

I suppose that if it does at very least swap CPC's then you can temporarily compare one set of pings with another but alas not at the same time so is there any true relevance to the data?? Though as many have pointed out once the lease goes you can't swap back to that IP anyway

Only insofar as you can put any IP address you want into the monitor, changing his own IP has no bearing on it whatsoever.

Ideally, it would but not necessarily. The CPC doesn't issue any IP addresses.

There is no reliable way for a user to find out what CPC he is on anyway, in practice he would have to contact 2nd/3rd line VM staff to find out.

http://tools.virginmedia.com/ I suspect you have spent the weekend googling yourself senseless in a bid to find the hard fast facts that prove me incorrect. It must be most frustrating for you wanting so badly to be the networking guru you dream of. But with no hands on experience and little to no chance of ever getting any your never going to reach those dizzy heights of networking knowledge.

Throwing insults at somebody who has proved time without number that he does indeed know what he is talking about does not lend you any credibility at all.

Nothing on that page states what your CPC is. Reverse DNS is often in the right ballpark but is neither accurate or reliable.

Tis' cool. I'm sure he enjoys the dizzying heights of judging the employment history of strangers on the internet.

Can I suggest that those throwing insults may be in danger of the mods/admins throwing infractions around in response to such insults.

Now back on topic please

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?

Clicking the connection tab at the top of the forum tells you what CPC you are on.

I've bounced around plenty of CPC's in the last month or so, some were worse than others, some were good for base latency but had more jitter, im guessing they are just routed differently, but the main issue was finding one that was more stable.

I'm on CPC1 at the moment, though it may mean nothing, the lower CPC's have been better than CPC15 or 16 for example, probably a coincidence though.

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?

Just to lend further weight to my statement your reverse DNS does *not* tell you what CPC you are on:

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?

Hi guys,

First post since I registered 2 years ago.

Just wanted to say I've never seen such a childish thread in all my life. Why are you all trying to get one up on each other? Nobody cares how much you think you know.

Has anyone got to the bottom of whether or not using any method this is possible?

And yes, there are legitimate reasons for changing your IP. The addresses have been assigned to people before so for online gamers like myself you sometimes find yourself connecting to a server which has banned your IP in the past.

I have been banned from an online game by accident. The server owners have now unbanned me but some sort of bug on their end means the server is still refusing my connection. A change of IP would solve this and is a completely legitimate question to warrant this thread.

Could someone please provide relevant information?!

Thank you!
