Change internet ip address using superhub?
Hi guys. I recently had my virgin modem replaced with a super hub. Before I could easily change my ip as my modem was connected to my linksys router, so I could clone the mac address in the linksys settings and turn off the modem for a few minutes to change IP.
Can I change my internet IP address with the superhub? So far no luck. |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
Why would you actually need to do this though??

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
You can only do this if you use your own router instead of the Superhub.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons. I do it all the time.

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
Internet IP Address means "Internet Internet Protocol Address". Kinda like saying an ATM Machine.
The superhub afaik does not allow for the cloning of MAC addresses, therefore your best chance would be to place it into modem mode, and use your own router to clone a different MAC address. |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
One legitimate reason is to switch CPC's.
I have done this rather a lot to find the best line with least jitter and again, best base line latency. It's a lottery, but i finally got it... then comes finding the best upstream :D fun times... |

Most of the ones I can think of are for avoiding restrictions placed on the IP in use and the usual reason for those restrictions is an abuse of the service in some way or another, or because limit lifting involves flashing the plastic. |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
A simple mistake with some web hosts can mean a 24 block of your IP (for example caps lock on a password entered incorrectly 3 times and 1and1 will 24hour ban the IP.) It's happened to me before now and it's why I'd want to change IP's (if only for a brief period whilst I upload new content)

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
That would be more likely to make me change web host....
I guess it's a valid enough reason though. I was basing my assumptions on somebody I knew who as well as getting all his movies free refused to subscribe to the file hoster he mostly used because he could avoid the delay between downloads for free accounts by changing IP. I've seen other stuff on forums where people have been banned from some site or other by IP (a singularly stupid thing to do by the admin of course although I've done the same for my public webcam where the abuser was on a fixed IP). |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
It's like the old usenet/P2P argument.. Although most use if for downloading movies/games there are legitimate uses for them.
The same for wanting to change over an IP... As for changing web hosts I'd rather have that bit of extra security than have someone sat there for a few hours trying to brute force a password.. It's my fault that I got locked out and not the webhost ;) |

Changing your IP on Virginmedia sometimes will connect you to a different port, hopefully a less congested one so it can be quite useful. Also some people like to set up more than 1 ping meter from there UBR. So need a few different IP addresses. |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
Complete rubbish.
Changing your IP will not connect you to a different port. Changing your IP address will not allow you to set up more than one ping meter. |
Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
How about people stop worrying why he wants to do it and just tell him how? Why argue over it when it's not your problem? :)
