Actually I'm correct on both counts, the ping monitor is simply you log into thinkbroadband set up a ping monitor then log out. Change your IP log back in and set up a second ping meter. You may have to wait a day or 2 for your old ip to be picked up by another CPE.
Don't tell me you can't do it as I have done it.
You really don't do yourself any favours kid.

Its an almost infinite way of getting a new IP.(well, within your local IP pool)

I'm not fighting dude. I'm just explaining that Telly Bear misunderstood my reply which was my fault for not posting properly It looked as though I didn't understand what qas meant. What I was trying to get across was that the OP's question had already been answered by qas. Hope that clears up any misconceptions

No, you're wrong on both counts and clearly don't have a clue how ping monitors or IP addresses work.
Just another clueless idiot spreading rubbish and misinformation... Get a life, "kid".

If you have disagreements, take it to PM - any further niggling posts will be deleted.

Re: Change internet ip address using superhub?
So then, are we agreed that you cannot change your IP address with the SuperHub alone and that a separate router is required? I'm really interested as everything I have learned (admittedly very little, my bad) with regards to modems/routers is as a result of the people on this Forum. Not interested in causing or adding to any frictions, just want to learn.

He means use a router instead of relying on the superhub for routing, i.e..modem mode. Then you can change the MAC of the router and hence get a new DHCP allocation.

I'm correct, I still have 2 ping monitors from 2 previous IP address I had on Virginmedia and 1 from talktalk aswell as my Sky IP.
The ping monitor reponds by pinging an IP address if the device its connected to responds to pings it will show on the ping monitor. As you know as you have set-up ping monitors for commercial IP's. The ping monitor does not have to ping your connection, Just an IP address.
So you setup a ping monitor and the ping meter will ping it, then get a new IP but you don't delete your old IP ping monitor you just start a new one. Now for a while the first ping meter will show a big red result or nothing. Once a new CPE that is configured to respond to pings picks up that IP it will start showing results again.
As for changing port I often changed customer premise card on virginmedia when changing my IP. So quite politely I am correct.

No, you're not.
You can enter any IP address you want into a ping monitor. Changing your VM IP has no bearing whatsoever on the number of ping monitors you can set up.

Correlation does not imply causation. Logic, and knowledge of how the cable system works however, does. Your CPE knows nothing of any IP address, and cannot even ask for one until after it has ranged and locked its channels, connected to a specific port, and negotiated it's configuration file.
So quite politely, you are clueless.

You seem to be missing my point, I'm not saying I think its possible I'm saying I ACTUALLY DO IT lol.
When I was on VM if I changemy routers MAC address to a certain 1 it would get CPC-11 if I changed the last digits ofthat MAC address to 35 its would get CPC-16. So I'm not saying I'm a network guru, Infact I suspect I probably only know as little as you. But facts are facts lol.
I understand disconnecting and reconnecting would also cause a switch but certain MAC/IP combinations got the same CPC EVERY time. Must of just been a fluke. . Also changing the MAC back to its original would get the same IP back. This is simply due to the way VM's IP "stick" to MACs. Incase you haven't noticed it is possible to have a static IP or a sticky IP. You're saying every reconnection is random ITS NOT.

If ignition wants to tell me I'm wrong fair enough as I'm like you and know very little about networks other than what I have read.
