And if you've already downgraded and have unviewed recordings? You would want to know before downgrading, that you had to make sure that you had viewed everything.

Be happy that you've been getting something for nothing
If you resubscribe, the recordings will become available again.

Why shouldn't you be able to? You held a valid subscription at the time the recording was made. If you had 'taped' the recording you'd still have access to it.
Of course you should be able to get the recording off the hard drive to play on whatever device you choose, whenever you choose. That you can't is a serious problem with Tivo, IMHO.

How is it something for nothing? You've paid for the ability to record the progs/films and view them at a later date.

You seem to think that because you have paid a subscription to view a program you own it, you don't you have licenced a viewing of it, just like legally if you buy a xbox game you don't own the the game, you have purchased a licence to play it and that is the reason you can't transfer it off the hard drive because you don't own it. (Theretically speaking you don't own it if you physically buy the dvd or the game, you just have a licence to use it, reselling films and games under the current licence usage is actually illegal, its like subletting a rented room).

You paid to time shift the channel while you were subscribed, not after. You need to note this is for BSkyB channels only, so no prizes for guessing who made the request

Legally you are right. But it's not something I agree with at all. It is a huge step backwards from what was the accepted norm when video tape ruled. Big business finding ways to sell us the same thing multiple times.

The last time I looked it worked in reverse with Sky +,
With Sky + you could record a channel which you don't subscribe(but can't view it until you pay), with Tivo or V+ you can't do this but you can watch when your subs stop.
Has this behaviour with Sky + changed, if it hasn't i'm afraid that Sky are putting one over Virgin again just as the Tivo bandwagon has started to roll?

Re: Unable to view recordings from Sky-owned channels with no subscription
I don't really see what is wrong with this, if your no longer paying for a channel then you are not entitled to view their content, regardless of how you watch it.
If you have a problem with it then re-record your shows onto the DVD/VHS/Laserdisc of your choice.
