It probably depends on how many US shows you watch; TIVO is the term very often used, dialogue wise, when taking about recording something.

It's mentioned in an Usher song I think.

That's an excellent proposal and if one day VM implement something similar I would be happy to buy the kit.

Until the more enlightened of us pointed it out I thought it was pronounced 'Tye-Vo'

I think it is safe to say if you gathered a group of average non tecchie types the majority wouldn't have heard of it.

But once they advertise it and more and more people get it and talk about it then that will soon change.

Let's remember even Apple only had a relatively small group of customers and exposure here until that little used product the i-pod was launched.

I knew that would never catch on he he!

When was the last time you heard some one say "I'll i-pod that".

Not quite there yet.

Never, that would be daft. Then again I have never heard anyone say 'i'll Tivo that' either as I don't know anyone personally who has it, I know loads of people (me included) who has an i-pod though. Before it launched I doubt many would have been natural Apple customers.

However as Apple estimate over 200 million i-pods have been sold around the world I hope you see my point.

Consumer awareness of Tivo will increase as more and more people get it, no doubt about it and probably very quickly too but right now I stand by what I said, currently Tivo is a little known brand in the UK.

As maybe Apple was amongst the masses but it certainly isn't now.

Basically, consumers want to get their boxes from their providers, no hassle, everything works.

Hence why tivo is now working on providing boxes for providers.
I think there is also proof now that the cable/satellite providers own offerings have got better and better in fact some may argue better value than TIVO.

Look at these

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/3736...d-app-tv-guide

Proving other companies have vastly upped there games and many not charging an extra fee to use them.

From the iTunes page for your first link's App

Dated app lacks in yesterday's features
by Ping Brady
I've been waiting for almost two years for them to add feature so one could actually manage their recordings (see and edit existing). DirecTV is years behind DishNetwork in every category (including apps), and I can't wait to switch back. If you submit a feature request on their site they reply with smoke 'n mirror sales phrases about the few components they do offer
And from the Sky iPad iTunes page

Remove the subscription and this would get 5 stars, I am not paying for the same content twice.

Best Sport viewing application by jakeygamer

This is a very good application, which allows me to watch Sky Sports football matches for a very low price of £8.00 per month.
No streaming problems at all been using this sky sports service since December 2009. The quality is smooth and I get a crisp picture eveytime.

Since the new update the images for the Sky channels no longer appear. And also the tv listings do not display either. I have been in touch with Sky support. Will keep you updated.

Sky support say they will release an updated version to correct missing logos and info for users like me still on IOS 3.1.3 who can't update to IOS 4.2

Update has fixed missing channel icons.

Red button by Very Frustrated about this app

Can not watch sports that are on the red button. Annoying
Happy customers.....

Re: Virgin should buy TiVo...

Hugh if your going to quote PLEASE quote right The Sky iPad app is the Sky+ remote record not sky mobile tv app your iTunes quote relates to.

Your other quote merely strengthens my point of view as the user is talking about how strong dish network are with there apps , another company who's offering is equal to or better than TIVO

http://www.dishnetwork.com/tveverywhere/remoteaccess/

But you were making the point about directv, not dish network - your goalposts appear to be undergoing geographic relocation....

You're right about the Sky app <my bad> - here are the comments from the iTunes page of the one you linked to

Complete Rubbish Update

by Hamburger3 What a waste of time. Adds no functionality and most shows do not have a link to record now.

Gone back to old version. We want series link not this advert ridden crap filling the screen.

If It Ain't Broke....

by agrif Was a very usable app, nicely laid out in a very logical manner.

Today's update seems like change for changes sake and makes it much less useable, especially on smaller screens like iPhones.

Please go back to the old layout. And stop messing around with things that worked just fine!

Was great before. Now not so much

by Fca2010 DON'T download this update. Too much info on too small a screen. Simplicity has disappeared and the channels are on a stupid order. Ruined a once good app
Nice to see the offerings have, and if I may quote you
