Other than the fact it's only a questionable man made law which says he shouldn't have been doing what he was, there's nothing to say he would or wouldn't have been killed before today in some other manner, had he not been growing cannabis.

putting aside the "questionable" law ,how about burning the flat* down with the heat from the lamps or a short in the electric as the cables melted
who said cannabis wasn't harmfull
*i assume it is a flat rather than a house as anybody with more than 1 braincell would put the plants in another room

Growing a relatively harmless plant deserves the death penalty? Wow, you're harsh. What do you advocate for cigarette salesmen, hanging/drawing/quartering?

Growing cannabis was his concious decision. Burning a flat down in the process wouldn't be, it would be an accidental occurrence. One which isn't guaranteed to happen when growing cannabis or only achievable by doing so. I highly doubt the likelihood of this happening by growing a small amount of cannabis is more than having a few more electrical appliances plugged in either.
By such logic, if somebody accidentally falls down the stairs and dies you might as well say "It's their fault for having a staircase". Having a staircase is a decision. Walking down the staircase is a decision. Falling down the staircase is not.

i'm sorry but doing something as utterly idiotic as he did was bound to end in tears
there were several "accidents" that could have happened given what he was doing but the one that did happen was his death

Wouldn't a better analogy be someone balancing on a chair at the top of their stairs trying to reach out to change a lightbulb then falling down the stairs?

Yup - personal responsibility. He was 'responsible' enough to try to produce illegal drugs and paid a very heavy price... Tough eh?..

People growing cannabis isn't uncommon in this country, let alone across the world where in a number of places it's perfectly legal. This is the first case of this kind i've personally come across.
If you think it was bound to end in tears, i assume you must be privy to some pretty interesting information.

As for the Darwin award member, It was his own fault and only he has suffered. Result
