Phonelines down?
This morning, a neighbour came over to use my phone, to call the vet, as his phoneline was down. At this point, I discovered my own phoneline was down, as were some other neighbours (all on VM).
So I used a callbox, and called customer services, and was told:
"There is a known serious fault in the area. Our engineers are working on the issue right now."
However, they couldn't (or wouldn't) give me an estimated time for a fix.
Perhaps one of the helpful persons has more information on this? The area is the M41 area of Manchester.

Is there anything on the service status pages for your area?

Re: Phonelines down?
There are two "Planned Telephone Maintainence" items, but neither say which areas will be affected. I guess I could be in one of the areas.
They also say that people in the affected area's would have been notified beforehand. Nope, I wasn't.
Bleh, its a wait and see game, I guess.
-Edit- Figured out I have to select my area from the dropdown box. At which point, there is nothing listed relating to telephones.

No. Its... about 7 miles away from the city center. The area is called Flixon. Obviously I don't want to say too much on a public forum.
Its 9.00pm and the phones are still down.

Re: Phonelines down?
India kept telling me that theres an "area fault".
I posted on the newsgroups (virginmedia.support.telephony), they more or less said that theres no area fault, and that I need an engineer.
Thanks for lying to me, India. A pity I was using a payphone to call, and couldn't record them lying to me, or I'd be making an official complaint.

Re: Phonelines down?
That just annoys me to no end, when someone deliberately and wilfully destroys stuff with no regards as to whom it might cause problems for
I bet these people who vandalise telecoms cables/cabinets are the first to complain when their internet/phone doesn't work.
