What has caused this?
Today I noticed openreach installing a new line to my next door neighbours house.
Since then my speed has dropped from 20mb to 15.5mb. My line attenuation has also changed from 18db to 15.5db.
Here is full stats
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,386 / 15,614
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 40.00 / 303.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 5.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 15.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 4.5 / 3.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 133,800
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 4 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 52 / 0
Any ideas what migh be causing this and what can i do?
Cheers

Re: What has caused this?
Get cable
It was only a theory, as similar happens on cable. If it were cable an eng would be able to adjust the amp or remove some attenuators. Not sure if BT can do the same.
Im sure BT will say, your servcie is an "Up to" service

But a loss of speed and a loss of attenuation is not good.
I will get onto Be and see what they say.

Re: What has caused this?
Are you friendly with your neighbour? If so, and they have Broadband, you could compare your stats to theirs.
Your upstream hasn't changed, has it? seems fine to me.

The line was only put in today. Ever since this my speed has dropped.
I am guessing the techs maybe damaged the line. I am not happy.

Re: What has caused this?
I would contact openreach, but openreach don't deal with anyone other than organisations so BT or Be would be the ones to contact. But the call centre people might tell you it's nout to do with them.
Quote:
We do not deal directly with residential and business customers; only with Communications Providers, who are defined as organisations whose business is to provide electronic communications services or networks to third parties (i.e. householders and businesses, other than themselves/their groups).
