Yer right!
No one in their right mind would take option 1 or 2, well maybe my Grandma but then she just uses it for email.

Also i think everyone knows ADSL doesn't vary the speed the same as cable, as the amount of users on the network doesnt vary the speed? Are you aware of that? Thast what im getting at, either way its 8meg for 1/3 of the price

First, as you have been told, it's up to 8 meg. ADSL can be as dodgy as cable.
Second, the tarif you quoted has a very low cap (8 gig per month). Virgin is unlimited (well, apart from traffic shaping, but it's possible BT do that to).

You know if you went over like 50GB with BT unlimited you'd get a call from them, they aint as flexable as ntl are...

BT do traffic shape, everywhere...
... ntl only traffic shape in certain areas where the UBRs are not able to cope with the overload

There is one disadvantage you have overlooked..you HAVE to have a BT line..and I'm never going back to them...They can be as cheap as chips but I'm not returning to a service that I found repeatedly unreliable.

Firstly an 8mbit Sync is very hard to get and even if you DO manage it you won't get an 8mbit ip thoughput.
I live within 5 mins walking distance of my local exchange
and heres my line stats.
Connection Status Connected
Ds Rate (Kbps) 7616
Us Rate (Kbps) 448
DS Margin 14
US Margin 24
DS Line Attenuation 8
US Line Attenuation 6
Trained Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
LOS Errors 0
Peak Cell Rate 1056 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 5
Path Mode Interleaved
Thanks to the BRAS profile i have a 6.5mbit ip throughput maximum

Ntl - 10meg £30
Bt - 8meg £10 I Meant That Difference Is Huge, It Aint Pennies?

I will put this simple for you again.
You order 10mbit on cable and you get upto 10mbit, every cable is capable of doing 10mbit subject to contention.
On BT and all other adsl providers you can be paying for 8mbit but if the line is no good you may only get a fraction of that as well as suffer from network dropouts.
Also please dont lie you were not hitting 8mbit on his connection because the maximum speed on BTs adsl service is 7.15mbit due to atm overheads. 8mbit is 960kB/sec.

Which is what I have just ordered although through sky.
£17.00 per month , 40gb allowance. Wanted unlimited but will try this and see how it goes, beats the hell out of £35.00 a month for virgin.
Trouble is I'm so far away I can get 512k max.

35 is for upto 10meg and you would get alot fast than 512 even with the VM 2meg deal which is unlimited and with phone is only £20 a month

You're interleaved, that's why you have that sync rate. The overheads of interleaving take a chunk. You could actually achieve 8Mbps sync comfortably.
Speak to your ISP and ask to be switched to fast path and you'll sync up at 8128kbps, providing 7.15Mbps BRAS profile.

Are you a troll? I can't believe the crap you've come out with in this thread - I hate NTL for the way they treated me while I was working for them, but for all their faults, cable broadband or ADSL? No contest as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, with NTL I was paying for up to 4meg £25 real speeds were up to 3meg and more often than not 2.5meg, and dropped connections a problem. Virgin Media broadband is expensive! Our BT broadband is up to 5meg or 6meg, never the up to 8meg, and it is sometimes up to 2meg but at least it's an offer and less than half the price of Virgin Media.
Somebody at Virgin Media needs to examine their pricing policies on all their products.
