Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800

Right I am getting it ordered on Wednesday coming ( week today basically ) now I know it comes with a heatsink/fan but do I use the paste pad which comes with it, or should I get some artic silver compound.

Is the stock pad/paste good enough? I've a decent case with good ventilation and numerous case fans ( coolermaster wavemaster silver case )

Zing has a point, if you got oem rather than retail and stuck this on it

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800

Nah this ones retail I run a AMD 3000 right now and since you nicely helped me move over to my new mobo, I have noticed temps have dropped alot since you removed the stock compound and used artic silver.

Hence I am toying with also ordering some more artic silver...

but the cooler is made by Artic and it runs quieter and more efficiently than stock but again its your choice

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800

Thanks something to consider...most of the moolah is going into this CPU, should my temps keep running high I'll be considering it.

What is high for a X2 cpu?

No and this case is bigger and has a better mobo and internal cooling layout...

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800

If you are running at stock speeds then I'd suggest the AMD supplied retail fan and compound are adequate. It will be less noisy though if you upgrade to the Artic cooler as they are more efficient. It's not about the case and motherboard design so much as the effort required to get the heat away from the source point, i.e. the CPU.

Even with a good CPU cooler, you then also need a good case design so air will flow away from the CPU cooler fan, and be vented outside the case.

If you are likely to clock the CPU, then I'd definitely be looking at an upgraded cooler. Oddly enough some review suggest the compound supplied with the Arctic coolers can work better than the silver stuff.
