4400 4600 or the 4800
Right, belated birthday pressie for me.
A new dual core processor for my Asus A8n32 SLi Deluxe, I would like to spend under £200 so I can stock up on beer for BF 2142 when I am pwning you all :disturbd: So my question is this. Do I buy the 4400 Quote:
Or Do I buy the 4600 Or do I pre-order and go insane for a 4800. Quote:
Now the 4600 is nicely in my price margin, and has a nice speed of 2.4ghz which is the same as the 4800 processor, but the 4800 has more cache than the 4600 as does the 4400, so I am confused. Most of my time is spent on games online and minimal graphics or other work, for speed of access since they're always in stock it would seem the 4600 is the better choice, but I would like input on these three processors thanks, and while I acknowledge their is better easier perhaps faster computers out their with Intel Duo Core etc, I am happy with my mobo and just need advice on these processors thanks. :tu: |
Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
Given the choice of those three, I would go for the 4800. More cache = better performance.

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
Any idea of how hard it is to find one, Scan and OCUK are out of stock.

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
The 4800 (and all higher cache) Athlon 64's went out of production over the summer. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to find one anywhere new.
When i say out of production thats not quite true, they still make the chips they are just packaged and sold as Amd Opterons. Only 2x512k cache athlons are still sold. which is meager compared to the unified 4 meg cache you get on the intel conroe chips |
Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
So basically since I know I can grab a 4600 brand new boxed, I should bite Scans hand off while I can for it?

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
I already told you the 4600 is the way to go :)
If you do want 2 meg cache then the 4400 and its unlikely the 200 mhz will make much of a difference |
Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
Why not go for the Core2 Duo from intel? Its a better chip - are you keeping the same motherboard i take it?

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
We been here before and I got told off :) So all I offer now is the advice requested which is either the 4400 or the 4600 :)

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
Ah - no probs bud!

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
I would have been shouting out for C2D also :)

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
LOL I promise when I am ready to build another rig, I shall gain advice from the both of you over the Intel and AMD debate ;) I trust Intel are ahead but I admit now I am a proud AMD Fanboy :D

Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
Its a no brainer as my other post suggested, it has to be the 4600 and the 4400 and the 4800 in that spec are unavaliable anymore and havent been for 3 months+ now so will be very very hard to find.
I'd also go with the c2d vote but you wanna be cheap and you wont get much for cheap with c2d (new mobo, ram and cpu will be required, easily past £200!) |
Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
I plan on a whole new rig later into 2007 and hand this one to the gf, but right now I would like to get this on Dual core.
So time to go buy the 4600 once the moolah is ready! |
Re: 4400 4600 or the 4800
I'll pick one up and fit it for you buddy, just give me a shout when you are ready and i'll pick you up :)
