I'm tempted to go both
BTW I'm going to have to shut the proxy down unless of course you want to transfer over some cash to my account

I would defo be tempted to... after the help you've given me but I can't afford it right now
I also had probs with one aspect of nationwide's online banking (setting up new arrangements) and that also works thru your private proxy but not without.
Who in BY do I report this to? Do I phone the helpdesk or is there an email addy I can send a link to this thread to?

I normally have a rant at them on their newsgroups news.blueyonder.support or maybe just mail them through their blueyonder pages ?
I don't bother complaining as they never help : This is however a combined issue Standardlifes fault for not authenticating/recognising by's proxy server and the version/headers that by's proxy server is sending out to the internet.
Start with SL first

But it appears to be the same problem I have with Nationwide's site - I cannot "manage payments"... yet with your proxy that worked. I gave up on that one and just made the edits from work... but it's obviously somehow a linked issue?
So.. if I get nowhere complaining about it - where do I get a non-BY proxy when I need to access my banking sites?

LOL proxies are no good if you want your details cached on someones server !
Finding a proxy is not a solution maybe a different ISP would be in order
One who has decent proxies preferably : BT maybe ? I dont know too much about good free open proxies

Query - how can you not use proxy if you have Cable (as stated under your cute doggy picture)?
And have you tried clearing down the cache, closing the browser, and trying again?

funny noone said "Install Linux", a livecd is simply another tool to help find and fix the person's computer problems or to rule out their hardware/software as the problem, this case seems to be NTL:tw cache related.
if it was as quick and easy for your average new user to use a windows livecd then id be telling them to use that instead, but you cant just download a ready made windows livecd and need to have all your software cd/dvd burner and enough PC experience to make your own from scratch.
if your able and want to try making the non-realmode windows livecd then look to

it wasnt aimed at you AntiSilence, but mearly to show that today, even somone on a budget can infact get these things real easy, its also clear that your better getting a DVD writer today as the extra cost is small yet far better in the long run

Ay least 1 person participating in this thread works in IT for Nationwide so if you supply specifics they may be able to see if they can bring these issues forward.
We had the same issue at Freeserve where a large amount of it's customers could not acess internet banking or https sites. Despite gathering lenghty information the team at Freeserve where not willing to look into it. I myself spent many hours speaking to the customers involved noting down anything and looking for trends. Since proxies where not part of Freeserve as i understood it i never even went down that alley of investigation.

The particular issue with Nationwide (I'm a new customer with them so have not spent much time on their site yet) is the "payments & transfers" page - when I click "payments due" or "manage arrangements" the egg-timer just sits there and the pages won't open - it's fine if I actually want to make a payment, it's just those 2 options seem inaccessible. Again, this worked fine using the temp non-BY proxy CrC-3rr0r provided on Sunday so is obviously something BY related.
I have emailed BY support but as yet have heard nothing from them.

PotOfGold - I knwo you say you have not changed any settings etc, but a Firewall update / AV update might have caused it?
Try disabing all the frewalls, av pop-up blockers etc and see if that helps...
If you say it's happening a mutiple PC's, I would sugest you contact you banks technical helpdesk.
