Re: is sky broadband avalible yet?

Rite Im at a crossroads... I curently pay telewest 25 quid I think it is for the broadband. Basically we're not high users anymore, but would say we surf for a copuple of hours a day max, downaload on average about 2-3 gig in files max a month. And I have sky plus.
Should I dump the telewest line and get a BT one, which will then mean I get the top end sky broadband for, is it a tenner a month? Im not sure if this will be any good compared to the telewest broadband tho.

Sky also do unlimited evening / weekend national calls for a 5er on top of the BT line don't they.
Im not sure what to. Any suggestions to help me make up my mind will be greatly appreciated.

If you are 1 of the 10% in the whole country who can get the free sky broadband then its up to you. Be careful i have already been told i can have it then told i cannot. I even had ukonline installed on there 16 meg product only to find out on install that they had put me on the 2 meg. the lied through there teeth to get me on it. It has now been disconnected with no cost and no payment from me.

This will give you the back ground. 1 point look at the date and that mux is STILL no upgraded

No it was done over the phone, when i had the ukonline. There customer service is the worse level of crap and will only get worse as Sky retrain them.

Having had dealing's already with Sky's yes you can have it no you cannot i have no faith in them what so ever and when they say its ready my first question is to ask for it in writing with a get out bit as well. This then sends them scurrying for the i had better check it is ok and then they find out its not. Their system is crap and until they can guarantee me a llu connection i want nothing to do with it. I will have to have a BT line for it but that line will be for adsl only and will never have a phone connected to it as BT's idea of a phone is not my idea of a phone."i know you have to have a phone i will just not use it"

However if what i have heard is true about 20 meg from NTL then i will not be having adsl as it will not be able to compete with cable over the distance i am from the BT exchange.

Sorry that is wrong. Who owns ukonline ?. Sky are using the ukonline dslams.

n December 2005 BSkyB purchased Easynet and so now also owns UK Online. It is believed to be an attempt by BSkyB to enter the Triple Play market.

I am heavily involved with the installation of the routers for tiscalie and opal in BT exchanges. I talk to ukonline engineers all the time and they say they are now sky broadband.

Ukonline are owned by easy net which in turn is owned by SKY. They ARE using the UKONLINE dslams. I was stood next to one today in Mosley in Manchester. The engineers from ukonline were there installing another card for the 100 pairs to the BT frame. They are happy because they hope they are going to get the free employees package on SKY as they work for SKY. They also said that they are worked off there feet to get the work done as Sky have been telling there sales people that exchanges are ready when they are not. Seems to ring true for warrington.

Spike

I hope they sort it as free broadband appeals to me as a backup for my cable connection. However at the moment they seem to be suffering with the coming soon problem that NTL also suffer from.

Re: is sky broadband avalible yet?

the ukonline and sky might have seperate tech support and billing teams but they reside on the same network and owned by the same company.

One guy posted on adslguide he works for sky and was a ukonline customer but couldnt avoid a cease moving to sky broadband so instead they simply credit his bill each month to make his ukonline service free,

Indeed at the moment it's a mine field when you try to move from one llu provider to another.

LLU is still a new product and BT are resisting any change. I went back to an exchange to do a audit, The tiscali DSLAM had gone live and the BT engineers said they had just had a rush of move and transfer orders from BT broadband to Tiscali broadband. They said half of there daily jumpering was moving customers from BT broadband to a llu provider abd they see their jobs going out the door because of it.

Re: is sky broadband avalible yet?

Also playing games delaying LLU making the LU providers take the blame for missing schedules for rollouts etc.

I found out why BE pulled out of my exchange now and its because BT said there is no capacity left for more LLU, no idea if this is 'really' the case or not.
