Liberty identifies $1bn cost savings

Quote:
The Times Liberty Global, which owns Virgin Media as well as cable networks in the Netherlands, Ireland and Germany, said that it had initiated an efficiency programme that has identified $1 billion of savings that can be reinvested to boost growth.
A spokesman for the US company, which has been linked with a takeover or asset swap with Vodafone, declined to say whether the plan would hit jobs in the UK. It would be the second round of cuts since Tom Mockridge was appointed chief executive of Virgin Media and 600 senior posts were cut in 2013.

Re: Liberty identifies $1bn cost savings

If efficiency savings means closing the remaining UK support centres and outsourcing to India then God help us.

Yes we detest those Indian support centres as they are useless to say the least when one phones up.

That scenario would be awful.

Re: Liberty identifies $1bn cost savings

To step back a bit, we don't know if the efficiency savings
- will affect the UK
- will result in redundancies

I think the loss of TV customers, Sky launching its mobile service next year, Vodafone entering the TV market this year and BT acquiring EE will mean that Virgin will need to maintain its UK contact centres.
