Woman kept as slave
Quote:
A former hospital director has been ordered to pay £25,000 to an African woman she kept as a slave in London.
Mwanahamisi Mruke, 47, was flown from Tanzania in 2006 and made to work 18-hour days for Saeeda Khan, 68, at her home in Harrow, north-west London.
Khan was convicted of trafficking a person into the UK for exploitation.

Am I missing something here or is the 'punishment' of a £25k fine a complete disgrace?

Re: Woman kept as slave
I also heard on the radio that the 'employer' concerned received a 7 month suspended sentence. Doesn't seem too harsh for a really appalling case of abuse and if it'd involved a male and there'd have been even a hint of anything sexual (whether actual, alleged or threatened) I imagine it'd probably have been treated more seriously.

It's a nine months suspended sentence. It's in your BBC link...

Re: Woman kept as slave
Yes just seen that, it was way past my bed time when I posted the link. 9 months suspended is still paltry IMHO.
