Woman kept as slave

It's not a fine. It's compensation. It's paid to the victim who is also pursuing a civil claim. The perpetrator only escaped jail due to her ill health and the fact that she has two disabled children.

I also heard on the radio that the 'employer' concerned received a 7 month suspended sentence. Doesn't seem too harsh for a really appalling case of abuse and if it'd involved a male and there'd have been even a hint of anything sexual (whether actual, alleged or threatened) I imagine it'd probably have been treated more seriously.

Yes just seen that, it was way past my bed time when I posted the link. ;) 9 months suspended is still paltry IMHO.
