Internet downtime if I upgrade?
Hey. I am currently on 20MB broadband and have a phone line with Virgin. I was thinking of upgrading to 50mb however I was wondering if there is a downtime when switching from 20-50mb and why. I phoned up to ask but to put it nicely, I could not understand what she was saying to me. She managed to make would and wouldnt sound the same and I hung up feeling even more confused so thought I would ask you guys
Thanks in advance

No there shouldn't be any downtime. The 20Mbit service will continue to work until the engineer confirms he has installed the 50Mbit modem

Re: Internet downtime if I upgrade?
Wouldn't they just swap out the modems then and maybe alter something at the cab end? Surely it can't be necessary to re-cable.

Re: Internet downtime if I upgrade?
Well, there's obviously going be some disruption when the old modem is unplugged and replaced with the new one, and possibly a new IP address
....just in case you operate mail or web servers on your home connection

Sounds like my wife.
Just the other day I put up a shiny new bathroom cupboard, and could have sworn she said I wouldn't get in trouble if I didn't clean up the mess.

It's always best to explain carefully that you haven't made the mess - you've just moved it.
