Can't connect to modem

Hi all,

Since yesterday I can't seem to access my cable modem. I get this message from Google Chrome "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.0.100"

Any idea guys?

Have you tried using 192.168.100.1

Have you tried the usual suspects? unplugging it and the router?If you have a router

In what order should I unplug/plug back in, the modem & router?

Try another browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or even Safari and if you get the same result try connecting direct to the modem, remember to reboot the modem if you do so.

To access your your modem configs just click http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp or if that does not work click http://192.168.100.1/

doesnt matter really just leave it out for about 10 secs plug back in,try it see if it works.If that still doesnt work connect via a wired connection if possible. Could be you router and not your Modem. My router was fried a while! felt lost without the internet!!!!!

Thanks Masque. Both the addresses above worked, without changing browsers.

I would save them as bookmarks as they are better to use being direct links.

By the way I have all the above browsers including Chrome.

In your, or indeed anyone else on here reading this thread, what would you say is the consistently fastest browser with a 50Mb connection?

It is down to personal choice as you can tweak Firefox by going into about:config after googling various settings like this HERE and changing them internally, or I find that Safari renders graphics better than the others.

Try a few different browsers and see which you prefer.

on the subject of 50mb is there anyway that I can boost my signal over three levels of my house as my modem is on the top tier and my ps3 is on the bottom(silly mistake at install) and I am only getting 2mb but the signal strengh is at 85%

Is it possible to use a long ethernet cable and position the router on a lower floor or even connect a second router at a lower level.

I have moved it out in the hall with a 10m ethernet cable,before that it wouldnt connect outside the room it was in! Would using a second router not kill the signal? Similar to those range extenders and powerline plugs got the latter and cant get them to work?????

If I used a second modem could that work if they were set to the same ip address? Or is that not possible?

You cannot have a second modem.

You could try homeplugs as they are very effective and will take your connection down through the house using the ring main.
