My wifi connection in other parts of the house isn't great so I thought this would be a simple way of getting a reliable internet connection. Have I missed something? Should this not be a simple plug and play situation? It's really starting to bother me so I'm going to sit here and drink beer until someone gives me an answer.
Thanks

Yes, this should just be a simple case of plug the switch in and away you go. Basic home switches like that are configuration-free, they're plug and play.
All I can suggest is make sure your superhub is NOT running in Modem mode.
What problems are you actually encountering with this?
